The hotel is so centrally located that you have easy access to just about everything the city has to offer. Originally, I planned on visiting the various museums and nature paths, and being a non-driver, I chose this hotel because its location is within walking distance of everything I wanted to see. However, days before my trip, I sustained a pretty severe injury to my foot, so all of my plans to trek around Ottawa had to go out the window. As luck would have it, the Fringe Festival was taking place right across the street so I was able to take in some of the best stage shows that I've seen all year.nnThe great location is the best part about this hotel, and that isn't a disparagement toward the hotel itself. The staff were nice enough; not overly jolly, but polite and professional. The room I booked had a king size bed and was one of the better places that I've stayed this year. It definitely had some quirks, like the shampoo and soap bottles with broken nozzles, and the grimy looking side chair, but everything else was nice enough. Bed was clean and comfortable, lots of lights, great overall. Had one of the better hotel toilets that I've ever sat on. They're often too narrow on the inside, forcing me to angle my junk away from touching the porcelain. This one was very accommodating though.nnI took advantage of the amenities offered room service, late check out etc, which isn't something that I usually do. The only reason that I did is because of how easy it was to do through their app. I scanned the QR code posted in my room and it brought me to a web page with easy access to all of the hotel's services. I've stayed at 5 or 6 nice hotels this year, and the Novotel in Ottawa was my first experience with a fully online amenities service. You can still phone in any of your requests too. There was a phone in the room with speed dial keys labelled for the various service departments front desk, room service etc. And when I booked late check-out, they phoned up to my room to confirm the details. Their services are online, but there's always a person on the other end.nnVery easy to come and go with the key cards, and check-in/check-out was a breeze. For what I budgeted, the price was right, but I felt like I got more than I paid for with staying here. I'd definitely come back if I visit Ottawa again.
Only good thing about this was the central location but beware you need to pay parking at least $20/24h. Rooms are very dim, one small light for the whole room.Other reviewers were right about the druggies and weirdos in the area. They did not makeup our room even though we left in the early morning and came back in the afternoon…
Great rooms, very modern, very clean, very comfortable. Staff is incredibly helpful. Location is convenient for exploring the city on foot. Lots of great food options all around for dinner.nBreakfast buffet is beyond excellent and worth the money, never had scrambled eggs that awesome so far.
Rooms had no light and also blinds didn't work and was bright in the morning. We got a suite and it was nothing special at all. The location was good but very sketchy area with a lot of homeless, also no parking available.nnWe tried to leave but couldn't get our money back. Seems like it's also a shelter of some sort for the government.
The location is great in that it's close to a lot and very easy to get to from the Via rail station using the tram. However, I am a city dweller and used to seeing people with problems, but the level of hard drug users and people with severe mental health issues in the surrounding area made me feel a bit uncomfortable. Would not recommend walking alone at night in the area around the hotel or around the nearby mall.nI like the hotel, though. The rooms are great and the location is great.nnEdit: I stayed here this past weekend for Canada Day, and even given the issues in the surrounding area I have rebooked to stay again over the August long weekend. The rooms are good, the location is great and I don't feel unsafe. Just uncomfortable in the evening.
