Fairmont Château Laurier, Ottawa

Hotel is beautiful, location is fantastic and the rooms are clean, but there were significant fundamental issues with the rooms. The two biggest ones were that there was an extremely loud pulsating mechanical noise that cycled every few minutes. Despite comfortable beds, this made sleeping a chore and made the room unpleasant to be in. We were not near the elevators so I have no idea what that was. The second was that the hot water took a long time to turn on, we almost gave up. The second day I actually timed it and it took well over five minutes for it to even start getting warm.nnOther than that, there was a lot of little things that make this hotel bad value. The toilet was not level and tipped when sat on, resulting in a loud clank. There were lots of wear and tear on the rooms, which were generally dark and had exposed cords. Service was a mixed bag - the person who checked us into the hotel didn’t even say hello or provide any information about the amenities, some partially eaten room service was left in the hallway for 24 hours from another guest and nobody cleaned it up, but the doorman on the way out was very friendly.nnIf you are curious about this hotel, just walk around it. You will experience all the good things it has to offer. Being a guest adds nothing to the experience.

While this is a great central location and Fairmont level of service, better know that the walls are like paper if you have noisy neighbours you may not sleep very well. A room for a family is 2 double beds, not Queen. There’s no dark curtains and the room stays fairly bright through the night given the street lights. On a Saturday night you can hear the silly driver racing. While I appreciate the history and excellent service I don’t think it’s worth the price.

I was really disappointed in the quality of my stay at this Fairmont hotel. Given the price and brand name, I would have expected a top notch stay competitive with other 4 star hotels. However, this hotel is severely lacking in several areas.nnFirst, the rooms are in very bad shape. Yes, I know it is meant to be a historical landmark which means it is an older building. However, the rooms are not only outdated but dusty, smelly, and dirty. You can tell everything including the curtains, bed sheets, and furniture is old and has not been replaced in a long time. The hinges are rusting and the wall paper peeling. Even the robes and slippers look tired and reused too often. The mattresses are too soft and have zero support. Overall, the stay was not comfortable at all, and I couldn’t wait to leave. For the prices they are charging, I am sure they could afford some new renovations and furniture.nnAdditionally, service was barely there. When I arrived, there was only one person at the front desk and a line up of guests waiting to check in. Given the lack of resources, check in felt rushed and unwelcoming.nnOverall, I don’t believe this hotel deserves its 4 star rating anymore. Fairmont needs to seriously reconsider the current state of the rooms and whether or not the hotel lives up to its brand name at all.

Our room, boasting two double beds and offering a stunning view of the city and the picturesque fall scene of the Rideau Canal, was indeed spacious and comfortable. The presence of two bathrooms, each with a shower, was a pleasant surprise and added convenience to our stay.nnExploring the hotel and its surroundings was a delight. The gallery, both indoors and outdoors, provided fascinating insights into the history of the area, and we thoroughly enjoyed learning more about the rich heritage of the Rideau Canal.nnYour hotel's amenities, including the indoor pool and gym, were well-maintained and contributed to a relaxing and enjoyable experience. Additionally, the thoughtful birthday amenity for my hubby was a kind gesture that did not go unnoticed.nnDue to our brief one-night stay and the unavailability of a reservation, we were unable to dine there. However, this gives us all the more reason to return in the future and indulge in the culinary delights your establishment has to offer.nnIn conclusion, we would like to express our gratitude for the hospitality extended to us during our time at your hotel. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and appreciate the efforts of your dedicated team. We look forward to the possibility of returning in the future and experiencing all that Fairmont Chateau Laurier has to offer.

Hotel itself is a landmark and has its historical value. When we visited the hotel had electricity issues but we were lucky as they resolved our side quickly. The charm of the hotel is on another level. Next to the Rideau Canal and Parliament made it even better. Recommend to book a parliament view room. Highly recommended in my books.
