Story

HI-Banff Alpine Centre is the largest hostel in Alberta with views of the majestic Canadian Rockies right outside the door. All of our guests get free local public transportation, free Wi-Fi and free luggage storage, plus the hostel has its own on-site restaurant and bar. Take advantage of one of our packages year-round — from rafting and adventure packages in the summer to ski and job seeker packages in the winter.

Shared and private rooms are available, spread across two buildings with two fully equipped kitchens available for your use. Surpassed expectations. We got a private cabin; it was well furnished with large double beds, sofa, television (which rightfully sat unused throughout the length of our stay), coffee maker, and full bath. The main building has a full communal kitchen if you wish to cook (as well as a restaurant and bar if you don't), laundry room, a cozy loft with a social bookshelf, and pool table downstairs. It's space that encourages mingling, but there's solitude if you wish. It's very well worth the price, especially with all the amenities and facilities at your disposal. I hope to stay here again when I make the summer visit to Banff sometime in the future.

This maybe best hostel in Canada. Large and spacious, clean and modern. In a natural setting surrounded by trees and beautiful mountains. Wild animals such as deers and elks occassionally pass through this hostel's property. Room prices are not cheap, in fact quite expensive for true low budget travellers who can't even afford a beer, but because this hostel is being used by people who are not really poor but have money for the luxury of skiing or snowboarding, or wild drinking parting in Banff town, this hostel is often fully booked by those types of people. Still, this hostel provides cheapest day by day accommodations in Banff, the other hostels that are in town are even more expensive and they are much smaller sizes.

For a busy hostel everything seemed well taken care of. We rented a private room as a couple and did not have any noise or cleanliness issues which are generally the two concerns I have in a hostel. The kitchen was clean, parking was free, guest services was helpful. There wasn't anything I didn't like about this hostel but it did not "wow!" me to get 5 stars.

The hostel is a little way away from town, but since it comes with a free bus pass the distance is no issue at all, since the bus stop is so close. There is use of a kitchen and a restaurant and both options are brilliant. The hostel itself is cosy and has a lovely cabin aesthetic. The only downfall would be that the mattress on the bed wasn't great. But other than that it's a great hostel, and all the staff are very helpful and friendly.

I always stay at this hostel when I'm in Banff. Have never had any problems there and cab rides are cheap from the bar too. Nice big showers for in a hostel and the bar downstairs is sweet. All around good vibes.
