Enjoyed our stay at the Banff Caribou. Hotel has classic mountain charm. It was a nice 10 minutes walk to town, room was clean, and the onsite spa was great. The hot pool hot tub is nice but a bit heavy on the cholorine. Our room was comfortable but could use a few repairs electrical switches. Recommended paying more for a balcony since some of the rooms face interior courtyards and might feel a bit cramped.
I had a great overall stay at this hotel — the staff were friendly, and the amenities were generally good. However, there were a couple of things worth mentioning for future guests.nnFirst, the soundproofing from the hallway was quite poor. I could clearly hear people walking by, and when there were larger groups talking, their conversations carried right into the room. If you’re a light sleeper or sensitive to noise, this might be something to consider.nnSecond, the gym was a letdown. While it’s conveniently located next to the pool, the room was extremely hot and humid, even with fans running. It made working out uncomfortable. The bikes and weights were outdated and in need of an upgrade. If fitness is an important part of your stay, you may want to look into a hotel with more modern equipment and better ventilation.
After a Day of driving we stopped in Banff and Caribou Lodge was a Great place for the night. Shower had great pressure and the Shower Products provided in room were Absolutely Amazing!!! Local Rocky Mountain Soap Company!!!! The Keg in Lobby was Great as Always.. The Sleep was Fantastic. They had a Fan provided in the room which I have to have on to sleep.. And Well the Coffee Maker and Coffee provided was Awesome!!!! Old School Coffee Pot Not a pod POS!!!! And the Java was a Local Java Also. Evelynns Rocky Mountain Coffee... Highly Recommend Caribou Lodge!!!!
We stayed here a few years ago and liked it so we were happy to return with our 6 year old. Unfortunately this is not the same hotel it once was. The beds are comfortable and it was clean but the wood fire smell from the fireplace in the lobby is a huge problem. It's not only in the hallways but in the rooms. We have a room on the fourth floor and it was so strong last night it triggered a migraine and tonight it's just as strong. We have had the window open and the fan on drawing fresh air in since we checked in to try and air out the room thankfully the weather is mild but nothing helps. I spoke to a staff at the front desk and he said to open the window and if that didn't help to let them know and they wouldn't put anymore logs on the fire. It didn't help so I phoned the front desk last night but the smell didn't ease up all night and tonight I called them again and he told me that because they have a fireplace a bit of smoke is normal but this is beyond a bit of smoke. It's burning my nose and my eyes are stinging. I've stayed in many Banff hotels with fireplaces and this is the first one that's had this issue, so they need to fix their ventilation or get rid of the fireplace. I'm sure this is not a safe level. The rooms are in need of some updating as well, they're not bad but if they want to keep up with the other hotels in Banff it's time to modernize. On the plus side the free parking is great and the beds are comfortable, if they fixed the ventilation issue I wouldn't complain at all.
Staff were super friendly the wood burning fireplace in the lobby was really nice. Cons were the beds and pillows were super uncomfortable, room temperatures couldn’t be controlled and it was very hot in our room. The spa was probably the worst part of this hotel. The hot tub area was muggy and within a couple minutes all of our eyes were burning due to the chlorine amounts in the hot tub. It was by far the worst part of the stay which is what we were most excited about, hopefully this is something they address in the future. We paid $400 a night and definitely not worth it.
