My husband was at the General 8AB as a Transition patient for the last 3 1/2 weeks of his life he was completely bedridden so he was unable to go to the dining room for meals, though they tried to make him get up and go to the dining room with the others . He was too weak to get up. They waited until they cleaned up the dining room after the other residents had finished to bring my husband his meals, so the food was always cold. My husband already had a very poor appetite, and he couldn't eat what they brought him, cold mashed potatoes, cold veggies, and and cold meat. He was supposed to get Ensure 3 times a day, but he was lucky if he got even one. Even though he didn't like dairy products, and the staff were reminded frequently, they kept bringing him milk, cottage cheese or yogurt instead of the apple Ensure. This would partially be the fault of the kitchen staff, but the nurses should have contacted the kitchen for the Ensure as prescribed by his doctors at the U of A.nThe staff was friendly, but that was all I could say for them. I even had someone tell me he wasn't Palliative, because he didn't want to go to a C in levels of care, so he was at M2. They apologized after he passed away, but that was too little, too late.nIt was terrible for him. The care was just awful. I think they were quite short-staffed, but they could have done much better than they did. Language was also a barrier, as the aides didn't seem to understand what we were asking of them.nThey get points for being friendly, and bathing and changing him, but it was a terrible experience.
I did a sleep disorder over night clinic. Friendly staff. The hole process was unknown as I never received a package. Lots of hook ups and a mess of glue in my hair the next morning. Bed was comfortable and pillows to my surprise
Horrible staff, horrible food, zero communication and zero compassion and assistance. Our family was so disappointed when told our father had to come here, especially since we all live in a small community outside Edmonton where the medical services were 1000 times better. We’re disgusted by the fact that this place exists how it does.
My uncle passed away in October 2023. The care that the nurses gave him were second to none. they treated him with respect and dignity and made the last weeks of his life as comfortable as they possibly could. they contacted me regularly with any isses/changes of his health, and were always more than willing to talk about anything that happened during the day.nnthe only thing that I would like to note is the terrible parking that this location hasu but that had nothing to do with the level of care they gave my uncle.
I found the experience of going to visit a friend in 9YnPalliative Care calming.nnThe staff I encountered at the front desk Brian - I hope I have that right to the Nurses in 9Y were friendly and caring.nnI found the overall space to be serene and well set up to accomodate the patients and their family as the final transition starts.nnThe warm colours, the private rooms and the expansive windows are all geared to remind us of life.nnMy friend is living her life tills she passes in the best place possible.
