I have had a very stressful journey here made worse by booking appointments that were so close together it was impossible to get to. I had a Dr who took offense to any and all questions being asked about treatment and a very handsey nurse who knew it irritated me to be constantly groped but did it anyways. Over all I would say most staff try to do a good job but I felt like a number and found the lack of compassion very toned deaf for a medical facility dealing with serious diagnosis and struggling patients. I wish the staff had to go through even one day of treatment in a mock setting just to understand.
Brought a family member here for tests. Nice atmosphere. Friendly staff.nCome before 7am if you need to park in front as it did fill up by 7am.nParking fee for front parking:n$15 for 24 hoursn$2.50 per 30 mins.n$10 for 2.5 hours.
While I survived cancer in good shape, I did not survive Cross Cancer Institute in good shape.nnThere was the surgeon who acted as if amputation of body parts was a marvelous opportunity for personal growth and who didn’t trust me to make my own informed decisions. There was the oncologist who did the bare minimum to help me and maintained the demeanor of an iceberg even while she lied to me about her schedule in order to more easily dump me as her patient. There was the gastroenterologist who turned his back to me and gave me the silent treatment because I have medical PTSD and panicked before a procedure, delaying his very important schedule. There was the nurse practitioner who enabled the oncologist to lie to me, then bullied me emotionally for the remainder of my treatment, even getting some of her medical information wrong. There are the low-level administrators who say No to every inquiry without even pausing to think. There are the high-level administrators who, when you document how their employees have worsened your medical PTSD, take months to respond to even simple requests.nnI had hoped my experience might make things better for traumatized people who require cancer treatment, but after two years of relatively pointless suffering, I’m not sure I accomplished anything.nnIf I require further cancer treatment, I will move to Calgary or move to another province. I have never encountered such an assortment of cruel and uninformed medical professionals in my life.
This place saves lives, what else can one say. My wife went through treatment here for breast cancer and the staff were friendly and courteous and professional at all times. Not everyone that goes through here survives but most do and that’s great. Cancer is no ones friend, so to take something negative and make it a positive is not easy so kudos to the staff and the work they do. My wife had both chemo and radiation done and it was a tough go at times so the staff and doctors were friendly and understanding. It’s a well lit and clean place
The facility is clean, including the washroom, and every staff member I met was nice, especially Baylee, the nurse who looked after me during my first treatment. I felt very welcomed!
