I wanted to give huge kudos to the staff at this hotel. My husband and I stopped in after checking out of our Airbnb for coffee and breakfast, and I ended up staying for most of the day while waiting for my next accommodations as he also had a meeting and was away for the majority of the period. I would have stayed at the hotel, but I had an issue with my credit card and could only book through Airbnb.nnThe staff here are truly exceptional. The hospitality was consistent throughout the day, and I was particularly impressed by how attentively they treated every guest. Service was impeccable. Managers, housekeepers, and other team members were constantly walking the property, checking on guests, ensuring everything was well maintained, and creating a welcoming atmosphere.nnThe team at the lobby bar and restaurant deserves special recognition. From the women working the morning shift, who were incredibly pleasant and kind, to the evening staff, everyone was working exceptionally hard. There were three people working in the evening a younger man of South Asian descent, an older Caucasian man, and an East Asian woman. The evening became quite busy due to what appeared to be a large party ordering full meals and drinks alongside other guests ordering drinks and snacks, yet the team handled everything with impressive speed, efficiency, and professionalism. Despite the rush, guests never seemed overlooked.nnI typically would not think of a Courtyard by Marriott as a first choice, and I honestly did not even realize there was one in this location. However, based on the level of service and professionalism I witnessed today, I would absolutely consider staying at this property in the future. The staff truly made a lasting impression.
I’ve stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott Toronto Downtown more than a dozen times over the past three years while traveling to Toronto for business, and it has consistently been a great choice.nnThis is a no-frills hotel in the best way: reasonably priced, centrally located, clean, comfortable, and easy to rely on. Every stay has been smooth, and I always appreciate knowing I’m coming back to a place that is well-kept and dependable.nnOne of my favorite parts of the hotel is the bistro/bar. The staff there are absolutely wonderful, and the bartenders really make the place feel welcoming. There have been plenty of nights where I’ve chosen to stay at the hotel bar instead of going out, simply because the service and atmosphere are that good.nnAfter staying here so many times, I can confidently say this hotel is a great option if you want somewhere clean, comfortable, well-staffed, centrally located, and budget-friendly in downtown Toronto. I’ll definitely continue staying here whenever I’m in the city.
Dark cave of a room, all low energy bulbs. Bathroom too dark to shave in. Bedroom too dark to see what's in your case. This appears to be the new standard. Best bring you own lamp if you want to see anything. Never used the restaurant or other facilities, its too loud to think or talk to anyone. Deafening. There are restaurants nearby. The subway is nearby. So if there is no other alternative, you can get by here.
Disappointing Stay – Dated Property and Poor Value for MoneynnWe chose this location because I needed to redeem Marriott points and other properties in the area were sold out. While the exterior of the building looked top-notch upon arrival, the actual experience inside was highly disappointing.nnThe front desk staff did grant us an early check-in, which we appreciated, but the room itself was entirely underwhelming. The bed and sheets felt small, and the air conditioning was incredibly weak and ran poorly. The bathroom presented a genuine safety hazard; the bathtub was extremely slippery with no bath mat provided, making the floor dangerous enough that someone could easily slip and get hurt. The entire hotel feels dated, and the carpets are visibly old. This property is absolutely not worth 200 to 250 CAD per night.nnTo make matters worse, I found out breakfast was not included because of the lobby restaurant and bar setup. When I asked about adding breakfast, they quoted an outrageous $30 per person per day, which I immediately declined. Fed up with the low quality of the property, I decided to move to a different hotel where my Platinum Elite status would actually be respected.nnDuring checkout, I spoke with the manager, who was admittedly very nice. I questioned why a hotel charging 200 to 250 CAD a night—meaning a total bill of nearly 500 CAD for two nights—would charge extra for breakfast. He kindly gave us a pass to eat, but the actual buffet was shocking. For a meal they value at $30, it consisted only of scrambled eggs, oatmeal, danishes, coffee, and juice. That is a total rip-off. The manager offered a $15 discount instead, but I declined.nnIt was an awful experience. I expect to spend money where the value matches the price, and this stay fell completely short.
I am a Marriott Bonvoy member, stayed here three nights. The good stuff: the Bistro was nice, good food. Staff were polite, the bed very comfortable.nThe not so good stuff: three times my card key would not open my door. The digital key was a no show from the first. I payed extra for a corner room with a balcony, trouble was you could not open it, I reported it, they said someone would come up to fix it, it did not happened. I heated water inthe coffeemaker to make tea, the water was brown and disgusting, coffee makers need to be cleaned on a regular basis and descaled.nI payed almost five hundred a night for my room, which for regular folks a lot of money. Would never stay here again.
