I did my monthly veggie and fruit shopping here today and I was a bit disappointed they had no watermelon I went there purposely cos I wanted nice fresh watermelons ,,apart from that everything else was good, fruits and vegetables are very fresh and affordable.
I always enjoy shopping here. They have a huge selection of fruits and veggies, some that you won’t find at the grocery store. My husband claims they have the best deli ham anywhere and I love their selection of vegan items. One of the few places that consistently offers veggie paté. Nice selection of bakery items including some gluten free. It’s always a pleasant surprise at the cash, as the prices are so reasonable.
2024 a couple weeks later: they upped all their prices. I may not come back even though I like the store. I see on June 12, they also posted on Google maps as themselves, seemingly pretending to not be the owner? I shared a screenshot. That seems weird.n2024: Great as ever. Lots of variety and good quality produce at non-gauging prices. If you have anxiety, sensory issues, or just have a hard time grocery shopping, this is honestly the best spot. No harsh lighting and no music. However you can smell the fish section when you walk in, but that comes with the territory. I have a very sensitive nose and though I don't find the smell pleasant, I didn't find it that bad.nThey have multiple local food products including Nat's Bread amazing and local pork.nn2021: Great produce at fair prices and they carry Kawartha ice cream which is made locally in Ontario.
Their produce is great, and the staff are friendly. But beware of buying meat here. The meat department continues to sell meat full price right up to its best-before date. They often don’t mark the date it’s packaged on, so it can be confusing if the posted date is the “packaged on” or “best before” date. I would have expected them to mark the package, like other stores, with a bright price reduced sticker indicating that’s it’s close to its due date. But I have paid full price for meat that had to be thrown out two days later.
Yesterday, I bought four pomegranates from the discounted produce section at Prudence Depot Ottawa. When I got home, I discovered that all of them were completely spoiled and not usable at all. Today, when I went back to return them, the manager a woman told me that because the items were on sale, they could not be refunded.nnI explained that these pomegranates were sold for human consumption and that it was their responsibility not to offer produce that should have been thrown away. She replied that they might change their policy in the future, but she still refused to accept the return. When I asked who her supervisor was, she said she was the manager herself. She did not apologize for the situation.nnI was honestly shocked—not because of the seven dollars I lost, but because of her behaviour and the store’s policy. Food quality is extremely important for customers, and unfortunately, this store did not show proper attention to this matter.
