I love shopping at Chinook Goodwill. There prices and selection are great. The staff is so friendly and help ful. Carol stands out by always finding what I need. Shield always makes me laugh with her sparkling personality. See you tomorrow.
The prices have gone up a lot. I saw a blazer priced at a Goodwill store for $250.00. Not sure how you justify that price even if it is high end.nnAlso, they always respond to reviews about high prices with the cost of their employment program for disabled Albertans. My nephew who is on the spectrum ‘worked’ at this location for three months through the Mount Royal U program. He was not paid and his only training was accepting donations and placing them in the bins. So free labour and no real training or rewarding work experience. How do you justify your employment program when it’s unpaid and the work is not inspiring at all? He was bored silly by the job and frustrated that he was ‘working’ for free.
I’ve contemplated whether to post this but I just can’t believe how bad it’s gotten.nnFirst of all, I’ve purchased multiple items from this store that are broken, missing pieces or just generally not in the shape you think they are when you purchase them. Quality control is poor and the pricing is so high right before Christmas. I have to assume that it’s gone up 50% in the last month alone November/decembernnSecond of all, some of the staff are so incredibly rude. They are constantly bumping into you rushing from here to there. I had one lady say excuse me while bashing into my back, I had myself pushed up against the clothing rack to accommodate her and when I said okay, but don’t touch me she aggressively stated that there wasn’t enough room. You know, I get that, but as a person with abuse trauma it’s really unsettling to be touched like that. I accepted her response and moved on but then she came back later to mock me and stare me in the eye while doing it. Loudly complaining to other staff about me while I cried in the parking lot and my husband overheard her. Disgusting behaviour. I don’t think I have it in me to return to this location after that.nnThis was probably the third or fourth time staff had bumped into me because they are rushing around. It’s simple enough to say excuse me or pardon me and wait for the person to move out of the way. One of the staff who accidentally bumped into me made sure I was okay and apologized. It’s not okay to treat people like they are over dramatic or rude because they don’t want to be touched. You never know someone’s story.nnGoodwill, you need to train your staff to be more courteous to the patrons. Basic human decency is missing here, both on the level of the staff and the price gouging for Christmas time.
Chinook GW is my all time favourite Thrift Store! Love Tag Change Day …and I love the staff even more! They are ALL courteous, kind and friendly…especially Carol! Keep up the great work and all the best to everyone in the New Year!
Better than Value Village as it is a nonprofit and has about 88% re-investment into the mission of creating self-sufficiency with the unemployed. This location in particular seems to have pretty regular turnover on clothes, but it’s not the best for furniture as it does not hold much inventory and these tend to be marked a bit too high. Interesting art and collectibles. Clothes tend to be clean, and the staff are helpful. They make it extremely easy to drop donations off and accept a lot. You cannot get reimbursed for returned clothes, but you can exchange. You can try stuff on in the store. Did I mention it’s better than Value Village? Ok great.
