We were on the main floor of the hotel during our stay. Occasionally got the smell of weed or cigarettes but it wasn’t constant. The beds in our room were horrible. Only the kids got some sleep. The mattress was so hard, there was no give to it. Staff were very friendly though and check in was great. Shower area in the room was moldy and covered by a layer of caulk. The fan in the bathroom doesn’t work seems to be a common theme in many of the reviews. Despite the loveliness of the staff, we wouldn’t stay here again.
Nice size hotel and rooms. Pools are nicely maintained. Very dated. Usually that doesn't bother me but it was an accumaleted bad experience. Our room didn't have a lock in the patio door. First room had blood stains on the sheets. Thankfully they did exchange it for another. Slowest elevators.
The Toronto Don Valley Hotel was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. The room had bed bugs and other insects, making it impossible to feel comfortable. We brought the bug situation to the attention of the manager, and all he offered was a simple apology, with no real action taken. The Wi-Fi was practically non-existent, barely allowing me to check emails. The elevators were unsafe, with doors that didn’t close properly. The gym was badly lit, and the pool was dirty and clearly not maintained. The pictures on the website are deceiving and do not reflect the actual state of the hotel. The convenience store was absurdly overpriced, charging premium prices for basic snacks. The bathroom had no hot water, and the fan didn’t work, leaving the room damp and musty. To top it all off, the manager lacked basic customer service skills, dismissing concerns instead of addressing them. The only positive aspect was the cleaning staff, who were awesome and did their best despite the overall poor conditions. I would strongly recommend avoiding this hotel until significant improvements are made.
I was not expecting this gem of a hotel, tucked away out of the hustle bustle of the city core, just right off the Don Valley. Take the highway to get there the easiest way. This hotel is well kept, clean, and has lots of amenities. They market themselves as an urban resort and try to ensure guests have necessary things an available. The rates are affordable and not like downtown hotel rates. Definitely worth the stay. There’s a bbq every Friday from 5:30 to 8:30 which is a nice way to meet other people, especially if you are travelling alone. It’s by the pool outside. You gotto pay for your food though!. The pool area is well kept and the fool looks clean. I like that the hotel has a convenience store. I can’t recall the last hotel that gave had that. So I appreciate that touch. Excellent customer service from the gentlemen at front desk
I had a very pleasant experience overall. This hotel is decently priced, clean, and customer service is friendly. The problems I had were very minor and I was able to make my trip work anyways. This hotel has two very nice pools that were clean, I was generally comfortable here, and they made me feel very welcomed. I don't think the reviews are as bad asthey sound and I would recommend staying at Don Valley, I would also stay here again. My only suggestion for them is fixing the sliding door so it opens for guests who would like to step out on the balcony.
