This place has a traditional British pub vibe. Kind of dark, with somewhat old beer smell inside. Even tables feel a bit sticky like they weren't cleaned properly. And all of this gives kind of special charm to Penny Farthing. Customer service was awesome. Young ladies were quick, polite and very attentive to our requests. Drinks and food came rather quickly. It was a service with a big smile. Their West Coast chowder with smoked salmon was the best we ever tried. We were glad we decided to try this pub.
I nearly had a fantastic experience. The food, atmosphere, and staff were absolutely wonderful. I arrived and started walking up the wheelchair alley entrance on the side with my 85 year old grandma. Unfortunately once we got to the door we saw a sign printed on it that said it was closed. We had to go around the front and carefully make our way up the stairs. Other than that inconvenience it was a very nice time. I would definitely recommend the pommes frites parmesan.
You pay for the ambiance. We came here for happy hour on a Wednesday. I ordered the raw shucked oysters 3 for $10 and the calamari for the same price. My wife ordered the stuffed yorkies for the same price. The oysters were small and average tasting with the delicious red wine vinegar sauce on the side. The calamari was your run of the mill appetizer. The decor and the building is certainly unique and has its charms with the caricatures of rugby players. It was a one time experience.
This pub is so festive and cozy during the holidays! They have a delicious cider selection and the service was attentive, kind and helpful. I can’t wait to come back the next time we’re in the area. Thank you!!
Great food, great service, clean friendly environment. Beautiful and well lighted marvelous place to eat. Apparently very popular too.
Atmosphere seemed great. Went in for a quick drink/appetizer. Server came quickly and took our drink order and then our food order. Drinks arrived promptly, however food did not. Waited for over 40 minutes, nobody came over to check in or offer another drink. Ended up finding our server, paying and leaving. Not the best experience. Quite a disappointing experience.
Amazing breakfast experience! The eggs Benedict is perfect, and the jam stuffed french toast is light and fluffy without being overly sweet. We sat at the patio and it was very nice! Great customer service as well - highly recommended for out of towners visiting Oak Bay area.
I haven't been here for years but remember that it is very nice. Outside sitting, a bit pricey but tasty. The staff are very helpful.
For my 5th visit in March 2022 I had a turkey pot pie, excellent! This is my 4th time to this pub and I love their foods. The Shepherd Pie was of a big portion. Like other Vancouver pubs in mid-June they ran out of Guinness too, but EUFA was on and I watched Italy won over the Swiss. Service is excellent as I am receiving smiles from the servers. I will be back next time I hop over to Victoria from Vancouver. Nov 16, 2021 visit: Salmon Burger tasted good and healthy.
As a relative newcomer to Victoria, I see so much potential here. They pour a good pint. Great service. However, their food consistently disappoints, to the point where it’s not an option for dinner. If they invested in a better menu with higher standards take a page out of The Beagle’s book this place would be packed every night.
