Parliament Hill

Great place to walk and see historical sites like Canadian Parliament, Supreme Court, the Royal mint of Canada. you can also walk to Bayward market and have great food after enjoying the place. Many people come here with families and spend the entire day. Great places to take pictures as well. Definitely a recommended visit for anyone into history or travel

A grand Gothic Revival complex perched right along the Ottawa River in downtown Ottawa. Walking through the open plaza, looking up at the high stone arches, copper roofs, and the massive Peace Tower standing overhead gives the grounds a majestic, official feel. The surrounding green lawns and sweeping views of the river make it a great spot for a stroll.

I finally checked this place out recently. Honestly, even with all the construction and scaffolding everywhere, it’s still pretty impressive. The main building is basically a giant work site right now, but the stonework on the older sections is solid and the views from the back overlooking the river are the best part of the whole trip.n​If you want to go inside, you have to book a tour in advance for the West Block or the Senate building which is actually down the street in an old train station. The West Block is cool because they put a massive glass roof over the courtyard to make a temporary chamber—definitely worth seeing if you’re into architecture or how things are built.

Walked up a couple weeks ago on a quiet Sunday morning and the view over the river from behind the Centre Block never gets old, even after all these years. The Centennial Flame area was busy with tourists taking photos, but the grounds are big enough that it never feels too crowded. Grabbed a coffee and just sat on the lawn for a while watching the changing of the guard, which the kids always love. Still one of the best free things to do in the city, and the staff at the visitor info booth were friendly and helpful when we asked about tour times.

Fun, enlightening and relaxing experience, spent the day at Parliament Hill, walking amongst the classic buildings, WWI Memorial, now the War Memorial, speaking with the knowledgeable and friendly guide, walking along the Ottawa Locks, watching a yacht travel up the Canal, the locks filling, yummy lunch at the sandwich shop across from the Federal Courthouse, great weather. Everyone seemed so relaxed, friendly and enjoying everything. Then a relaxing drive back along the river to our airport hotel.nnHighly recommended
