Giving this place 4 stars because of service and food portion sizes for 10 people. I came here for my aunt's birthday and we had their king crab set menu. Food portion sizes were all pretty big. The taste of food is slightly above average. Peking duck wraps were a bit too rubbery and the almond cookies tasted stale and the birthday buns were too dry. Service was quite attentive and courteous and the food came quickly. Best part was that we were seated in the private room area where they have karaoke available so dinner was extra entertaining and I feel like I got my money's worth because they didn't kick us out right after we finished eating. They allowed us to stay and sing for a while. This is no longer the old, dark ghetto looking restaurant it used to be.
Wow, New Century really went through a change during COVID! I had actually thought it was shut down for good, so I was surprised when I saw on Google that it had gone through a renovation and was back open for dim sum/dinner. I visited on a Saturday morning around 10:00AM and did not need to wait for a table. However, when we left around 11:30, there was a good number of groups waiting. The food is definitely better quality than before, my favorite was the pork rib congee. The portion was huge and the taste was on-point. The only item I wasn't satisfied with was the spiced octopus, it's a "J" priced item meaning it's the most expensive item on the dim sum menu at $12.90 and it wasn't as seasoned or crispy as other places. Overall, we ordered 9 dishes among 3 people and it was way too much. We paid $81 including tax and tip which is around double what the prices here used to be. Partially due to the fact that they don't do the discounted dishes before 11AM anymore. But they've made up for the increase in price with a clean and sophisticated interior, better service, and better quality dishes. I will come again!
This was my favourite place for dim sum as a kid, they used to have ladies walking around with the carts and you could literally take it from them and they’ll mark it off on a card. Now, it seems like they have been more “modernized” since their renovation - their prices are a lot more expensive, quality has slightly improved but it wouldn’t be something I would pay for. This isn’t to say that the food isn’t good - it’s really good, just the prices are a turn-off. I was really impressed with their steamed soup dumplings though, they made it very well and that itself was worth it. Lots of people, so you need to book. I suggest parking at the back of the building since there’s an exterior exit. If you’re entering the mall from there, go to the side north side and there’s a sketchy door labelled “mall entrance”. Go in through there.
We really enjoyed our dim sum experience at New Century. The plating, quality and portion sizes were impressive and the staff were very courteous and attentive. The prices were higher than the norm, but it felt worth it given the size, quality and freshness of the food served. It was a great experience and would definitely return again soon!
Fantastic Chinese restaurant in Markham! The food was cooked perfectly, presented beautifully, and the service was top tier. We visited for my grandfather's 96th birthday and will be going again soon for the next family celebration!
Went for dinner. Had Peking duck braised grouper w/tofu forgot to take a pic, snow pea leaves, 1/2 crispy chicken, stir fry beef tenderloin w/magi sauce. Service was attentive. Extensive selection for dinner, hard to decide. Dishes were ample sized. Will be back. Parking: Lots of free parking.
We used to come prepandemic for cheap food, it was probably one of few remaining old style Chinese restaurants around. Food was average, but it was pretty filthy and outdated. They renovated and reopened during the pandemic, the dim sum is superb with lots of variety and new selections. Decor has been completed updated and much cleaner now. Prices have gone up but is on par with other restaurants.
Same name but different menu and fully renovated since Covid shutdowns. Interior and dim sum is much more modern no longer with the push cart dim sum. The tea was exceptional and food was above average. Prices are average and the service was quick. Parking: Outdoor and indoor lot parking
They have some unique items like the crispy red cheung fun I think that was my fave item and the ham sui gok was so cute and shaped like a pear. Overall the dim sum is like other places but their menu isn't that extensive. Strangely, they didn't give us two items that we ordered they weren't even noted on the receipt, and they also didn't have a very common tea shoumei that all dim sum places have. Maybe they just ran out that weekend? The restaurant itself looks grand and it fits a lot of people, so we luckily didn't have to wait for a table when we went on a Saturday at 10:30am
Newly renovated looks nice. The steamed pork stomach with black pepper is too salty that made me drank a lot of tea. Food quality overall I would say is slightly above average. Service and price is Ok.
