Mount Saint Joseph Hospital

It feels strange reviewing a hospital, but it becomes necessary when you have an experience unlike any other hospital you have been in. I’ve been lucky enough not to have to visit too many personally, but have visited many as part of a previous job and family or friends who have been. This time it was myself having day surgery and I can confidently say this may be the most efficiently run, thorough, and clean hospital in Greater Vancouver. Start to finish, everyone was caring, attentive, and never made you feel as if you were a burden like some others do. Thank you everyone who cared for me during the short 6 hours I was there. And to the management, well done.

Unfortunately we didn’t have a great experience at this hospital. It began with the nurse leading us in to register, who was a bit cocky and covered it up by joking around.nThen my adult kid’s nurse was rude and impatient when querying him about his medical issue.nThen another nurse wouldn’t perform the treatment because she didn’t like doing it, so my kid actually administered it himself. So inappropriate.nThen when it was time to leave, they left him sitting there without letting him know he could leave.nThey also didn’t give him his blood work results, and now our family doctor tells us, he also had an infection.nnLike c’mon. I support and respect our Care workers, but when they lack respect for patients, it’s really hard to watch this. Patients are going through distress so let’s have some empathy and respect in return.

Nurse practitioner Leah in the ER had the best bedside manner and was very knowledgeable, quick and professional in addressing my issue. The staff are kind and eager to help as well even though it was clear that that dept is extremely busy! Less wait time than at any of the other hospitals in Vancouver.

I came in with severe stomach pain that turned out to be an appendicitis. I ended up having to stay three nights due to infection. Every single nurse I encountered during my stay was so kind and helpful. Never in a rush, always patient and willing to explain things to me and make me as comfortable as possible. On top of that, the day I came in they managed to give me blood tests, urine tests, two different kinds of ultrasounds as well as a CT with contrast within 3 hours. Very grateful

I can't say enough about the excellent care I received at MSJH. They were quick to register and triage me. I was examined, cleaned up, stapled and had a tetanus shot all in my first hour there. The staff is friendly, helpful and informative. When I returned to have the staples removed, the admitting nurse removed them for me to save me the long wait for a doctor. The staff at this facility set a very high standard of care and I'm very grateful to them.
