Nice old place in the heart of James bay 10 min walk from down town no line up big and roomy ordered a full candaron breakfast first bite amazing. Tastes like home made bread vary happy with the size of the breakfast. The service is good. If you like a place for breakfast without a line up this is your place parking is easy too
Can't say enough great things about this hotel! Immaculately clean. Roy at the desk was a gem. Dinner in the bar was great with friendly conversation, and they accommodated us when we said we needed our breakfast to be quick. Great location to visit the stunning Beacon Hill Park. Rooms are small, but that's to be expected for an historic hotel like this. Highly recommend!
One of the best breakfasts for the best price I've had in years. And all of the eggs Benny's were phenomenal. Also, the various servers each of the 3 times I was there were absolutely fantastic. Can't wait to go back.
The service was exceptional, courtesy, knowledgeable and helpful. The food was delivered hot and very tasty. The atmosphere was quiet enough that we could talk without raising our voices. The decor was very pleasing. Reasonable pricing. Overall a very good experience, we will definitely highly recommend this restaurant / pub and return often.
Good little breakfast. There was only one cook on sunday which made the waiting time a little longer. The staff were extremely welcoming.
What a wonderful surprise to find this place right in my hotel! I didn't even have to slip on a jacket. The lox and bagel were SO good that I literally had it every day. The salmon was so lovely and fresh. The deep-fied crunchy capers were a delightful addition with their burst of flavour. The presentation was a visual treat and the staff learned immediately to not even bother with a menu, remembered the whole wheat bagel and to hold the potatoes! Each day I meant to take a picture but my plate was too quickly reduced to clean plates and crumbs and there is no photographic record, sadly.
I would have given it a 5 star review instead of a 4 if it wasn't for what happened after our meal. Even though we enjoyed our meals on the evening of Monday 10th October, when i asked our server for our bill,he presented it for just over 82 dollars which was okay but when i asked him to make it up to 90 dollars to include a tip,he responded that he didn't know how to change it and pressed the 15% tip button to make our final bill over 94 dollars! Even though I'm a tourist to Canada,i know that you don't tip on the tax! When our server walked off in a huff to try and change it,my partner called him back over and paid him 90 dollars cash instead! On our way out,she overhead him criticising us to the couple on the next table! I had the impression that giving a tip was a privilege and not a right! I wish now that I'd just paid the original bill without leaving the tip! I later did the calculation and worked out that before tax,our bill was 77 dollars and with the voluntary 15% tip came to just over 89 dollars! So in fact I'd given just slightly over the 15%! I'd describe the server as a tall very slim guy with long wavy hair. This experience has put me off ever going back to their restaurant even though myself and my partner enjoyed our evening up to that point and i was going to leave a more positive review of our evening.
I have been going to the JBI for 5 years but in Victoria for 10 years. Not sure what the hold up was but glad I stopped in the first time. An excellent comfort food menu with probably the least expensive menu for drinks and food. The service has always been amazing. Big shout out to Eric who seems to be always working and serving. Just a great spot to hang out and chill over drinks and a meal.
I loved the atmosphere of this place, most customers were couples and the elderly on a Sunday morning. The decorations of the restaurant is on point and the blue paint made me feel nice, fresh, and awake when dining here for breakfast I kinda sound cheezy but it's true!!! Most of the time when I review places, one of the things I consider is the state of their washroom and the women's washroom here was spacious, clean, and had 2 mirrors and it wasn't the stall type of washroom you'd find in most restaurants, only one person can use it at a time. The food was okay. My companion had the Smoked Salmon Benedict which comes with hash browns and I ordered a combination of sides because: one, I wasn't that hungry and two, didn't find a menu item special enough to try; so I asked if I could only order side orders and the lovely waitress told me that I can! So I ordered 2 eggs which you can have in any way you want for $2.75, guacamole for $1.00, whole wheat toast for $3.00 and hash browns for $3.00. The hash browns were not good honestly, they were greasy and not fresh. My companion complained about the hash browns too. The service was great and the prices were reasonable. They did have juices but when I asked if they are fresh, I was told that they are not, so I ordered coffee and asked if they have any cow milk alternatives soy or almond milk for example and unfortunately they didn't have those either which sucks because I'm intolerant to cow milk and so are a lot of other people and also vegans! Lastly, we had a 15% off because we stayed at the Inn overnight which is why we tried this restaurant in the first place! So, in short, I'd recommend this place for one time dining but would probably not be back myself the next time I'm in Victoria.
Ordered regular burger and ceasar salad and a Canuck burger with ceasar salad... Salad ends were brown..burgers were tasteless and definitely were not homemade...2 bites and we threw them out
