Story

Fairmont Royal York, formerly known as the Royal York Hotel, is a large and historic hotel in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Opened on June 11, 1929, the Royal York was designed by Ross and Macdonald (with Sproatt and Rolph) and built by the Canadian Pacific Railway across the street from Union Station. With 28 floors, the château-style building was the tallest building in Toronto at that time, and the tallest building in the British Empire until the construction of Toronto’s Canadian Bank of Commerce tower on King Street one year later.

The hotel has been the residence of choice for Queen Elizabeth II and other members of The Royal Family when in Toronto. The Queen usually has an entire floor reserved for her and her party, occupying the Royal Suite herself.

Today, the hotel hosts royalty of another kind as an official hotel for the annual Toronto International Film Festival.

My wife and I had a lovely time at the Royal York last week. The room was comfortable and well-appointed. We had a nice view of Union Station and could just see the lake from our room as well.nWe didn't have much cause to interact with the staff during our stay, but every time we did, they were always helpful and pleasant. Check-in was easy and efficient. We were able to arrive early, drop off our bags, and have them brought up to the room once it was ready.nThe location was extremely convenient. We were able to take the train into the city and then simply use the underground PATH connection to make our way from Union Station to the hotel. This also made it very convenient to get to the subway and make our way to various other destinations within the city.nMy only slight complaint is that we both found the room excessively warm. Even with the thermostat turned off completely, it was still too hot to sleep comfortably. Luckily we were able to crack the window for a few hours to bring the temperature down to a more tolerable range.nOverall, I very much enjoyed our time here. It was a lovely place to pamper ourselves for a couple days.
Stayed here for 1night travelled in from another province, staff are nice and accommodating. Our room had odour of cigarettes so we had to crack the window open and when we went in the shower the drain was clogged and water would slowly go down, this made the experience bad. Besides the room, I was very happy with the design of the hotel, the lounge restaurant in the lobby was absolutely beautiful, and overall I would come again just hope the drainage issue and cigarette smell is taken care of. wasn’t too pricy, fair. Location of hotel is nice and central to Toronto, many nice restaurants within 10minute walk of here and nice night life on streets
First time staying at the Royal York and you can really tell the difference between other 4 and 5 star hotels in the city. The staff was so friendly, the hotel is beautiful. Even though its obviously an old building, it has been meticulously maintained and renovated, every corner was spotless. My husband and I treated ourselves to a post-Christmas staycation and we are honestly dreaming of when we can come again.
The staff was super helpful. Delayed out of London and flying to Brisbane the next day. We were afforded a late checkout, which we have never asked for before we always fly early in the morning, so we were grateful for the no-drama and easy-to-please way the staff took care of us. I can't wait to come back. I especially liked the Christmas decorations in December, but the Hotel was super fresh and cleaned up after all the decorations were down. Thank you to Fairmont. It is no wonder you are a preferred hotel. We will be back.
Upgraded to larger room which was immensely appreciated by whole family, and pet! Gold status allowed me to treat to great drinks from the bar and staff always eager! We were at hotel for 4 nights two weeks earlier, and enjoyed both visits equally!! ALL staff is super friendly - especially cleaning staff!
