Story

Fairmont Royal York, formerly known as the Royal York Hotel, is a large and historic hotel in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Opened on June 11, 1929, the Royal York was designed by Ross and Macdonald (with Sproatt and Rolph) and built by the Canadian Pacific Railway across the street from Union Station. With 28 floors, the château-style building was the tallest building in Toronto at that time, and the tallest building in the British Empire until the construction of Toronto’s Canadian Bank of Commerce tower on King Street one year later.

The hotel has been the residence of choice for Queen Elizabeth II and other members of The Royal Family when in Toronto. The Queen usually has an entire floor reserved for her and her party, occupying the Royal Suite herself.

Today, the hotel hosts royalty of another kind as an official hotel for the annual Toronto International Film Festival.

We had THE MOST spectacular stay for our anniversary & my husband's birthday. We chose the Gold level and we're spoiled! Treated like royalty. They upgraded us to a suite, treated us to in-room chocolate and snacks. The super king bed and walk in shower was a bonus. The lounge and staff were amazing. Thank you for making our stay the best experience.
This is a very old but luxurious hotel that has been upgraded with modern amenities. It is located downtown immediately across from Union Station, so it is very convenient if you take the train. The rooms are very nice. The reason for the 4/5 stars is that our room was small because of its location in a corner at the end of the hall. I imagine the other rooms are much more spacious. What's also nice is the access from the hotel to the underground streets that connect to other buildings in the area. You will also find access to shops and the subway. Overall, this was an amazing experience.
The hotel itself is magnificent. Would probably clean better and renew couple of things in the rooms but overall it’s nice for an old establishment. The newly renovated gym was amazing, just loved it. Service is excellent and food is good. It is close to everything you need and commute transport is very accessible. You can also use the underground PATH in cold/rainy conditions. Will definitely come back
I went on March Break with my 2 grandsons and the hotel was fantastic. Location, letting me have a cot best cot, the room was fantastic. I just loved it! I also was so happy I didn't have to look for parking. Thanks to your valet parking
I stayed here for a night. Really love this place. Very high class. Great service nice restaurants and shops. The amenities were fantastic. Right in the heart of downtown Toronto where all the action is the place has the antic look. You fell you are in a movie set
