Story

Fairmont Royal York, formerly known as the Royal York Hotel, is a large and historic hotel in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Opened on June 11, 1929, the Royal York was designed by Ross and Macdonald (with Sproatt and Rolph) and built by the Canadian Pacific Railway across the street from Union Station. With 28 floors, the château-style building was the tallest building in Toronto at that time, and the tallest building in the British Empire until the construction of Toronto’s Canadian Bank of Commerce tower on King Street one year later.

The hotel has been the residence of choice for Queen Elizabeth II and other members of The Royal Family when in Toronto. The Queen usually has an entire floor reserved for her and her party, occupying the Royal Suite herself.

Today, the hotel hosts royalty of another kind as an official hotel for the annual Toronto International Film Festival.

Our stay was absolutely wonderful. The hotel went above and beyond to make my daughter’s birthday special, surprising her with a handwritten card, a cake, and a room upgrade. We loved our room—especially the view of the CN Tower—and the toiletries were a lovely touch. I also really appreciated the hotel’s commitment to sustainability.nnWe made full use of the pool, sauna, hot tub, and steam room, all of which were fantastic. Every staff member we interacted with was warm and welcoming. We’ll definitely be returning.
When we are looking to come and stay downtown, we truly love and pick this hotel. From the moment you check-in until you check-out, your satisfaction is the hotels top priority.nI loved receiving text messages asking if everything was to our satisfaction and if they can assist you with anything. I wish I remembered the young lady that checked us in on Friday afternoon, she was great! Loved the customer service and staff.nThe room was very cozy and clean, but you can hear people talking etc, otherwise we found it very quiet our night!nThe lounges especially the Reign and the Library lounge are truly incredible. Wonderful ambiance.nI also love that it’s connected to Union station and the path. So convenient! Thanks again for another great stay!
Wow! This hotel is a beauty! Overall we had an amazing time here. It is across the street from union station where you can access trains, subway, and buses.nThe hotel itself gives off a grande vibe with traditional architecture and design. Rooms are upgraded to match that vibe.nThe service was impeccable. I was pleasantly surprised. I have been to many hotels around the world - the major brands. But the service i received here was above all.nFebruary 21st - to all the front desk staff that worked there, I’m sorry i didnt remember your names but you were incredible!!
In general I loved the stay, we had a king suite with a city view and loved the space and the facilities that the hotel offered. We couldn't use the pool and gym, but hit up both The Library bar and Clockwork for evening drinks. Breakfast at Reign was great esp if Victoria was your server. I had early mornings and her energy with everything from placing your order to getting your food and requests top notch!nnThe only issue I had was the telephone shower head not working when I got to the room, but they were able to fix it right away!nnWould stay at the Fairmont Royal York again!
I had an incredible experience at the Fairmont. The service was exceptional from start to finish, but I have to give a special shoutout to the housekeeping team — they went above and beyond every single day! My room was always spotless, and I was so impressed and touched! to find my clothes neatly folded when I returned.nnRoom service was also top-notch. Every meal I ordered was 10/10 — fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The chocolate-covered strawberries they sometimes included with my dinner were such a thoughtful and delicious surprise.nnThank you, Fairmont team, for making my stay so comfortable and memorable. I can’t wait to come back!
