Story

Fairmont Royal York, formerly known as the Royal York Hotel, is a large and historic hotel in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Opened on June 11, 1929, the Royal York was designed by Ross and Macdonald (with Sproatt and Rolph) and built by the Canadian Pacific Railway across the street from Union Station. With 28 floors, the château-style building was the tallest building in Toronto at that time, and the tallest building in the British Empire until the construction of Toronto’s Canadian Bank of Commerce tower on King Street one year later.

The hotel has been the residence of choice for Queen Elizabeth II and other members of The Royal Family when in Toronto. The Queen usually has an entire floor reserved for her and her party, occupying the Royal Suite herself.

Today, the hotel hosts royalty of another kind as an official hotel for the annual Toronto International Film Festival.

The hotel itself is magnificent. Would probably clean better and renew couple of things in the rooms but overall it’s nice for an old establishment. The newly renovated gym was amazing, just loved it. Service is excellent and food is good. It is close to everything you need and commute transport is very accessible. You can also use the underground PATH in cold/rainy conditions. Will definitely come back
Amazing location and top-tier amenities. I stayed there overnight while I was attending an event, and as I was walking to the room with my dog, there was a gentleman, Chris, on the sixth floor from housekeeping that brought me a dog bed and bowl without me asking, and I think that is first class service. Also, Juliana and her staff at valet were warm and efficient.nnIn terms of the rooms, given the grandiosity of the establishment. They are a bit small in comparison to standard double room in Toronto, But if that’s not a factor for you, the service for outweighs the size of the room. Recommend this hotel
This is a very old but luxurious hotel that has been upgraded with modern amenities. It is located downtown immediately across from Union Station, so it is very convenient if you take the train. The rooms are very nice. The reason for the 4/5 stars is that our room was small because of its location in a corner at the end of the hall. I imagine the other rooms are much more spacious. What's also nice is the access from the hotel to the underground streets that connect to other buildings in the area. You will also find access to shops and the subway. Overall, this was an amazing experience.
Spent family day weekend with my partner. The hotel, amenities, and staff were all great. Special shout out to Natalia at the front desk who made my 30th birthday extra special! The small things do not go unnoticed. We will definitely be back during our next city excursion.
I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Fairmont Royal York for the weekend in December, and it was truly a magical experience!nnThe location is unbeatable—right across from Union Station, offering a gateway to explore Toronto’s winter attractions like the Distillery District Christmas Market, Nathan Phillips Square, and Eaton Centre. The holiday decorations in the hotel were absolutely stunning! A beautifully adorned Christmas tree in the lobby, twinkling lights, and festive music created a winter wonderland.nnI stayed in a Deluxe King Room, which was spacious, clean, and well-appointed. The heated bathroom floors were a wonderful touch for the cold December nights. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the breathtaking view of downtown Toronto added to the charm. My only minor issue was that the room temperature control took a while to adjust, but overall, it was perfect.nnThe Fairmont Royal York embodies a perfect blend of history, elegance, and modern luxury. If you’re visiting Toronto in December, this hotel offers an enchanting holiday experience. I highly recommend staying here, especially for those who cherish a festive atmosphere and impeccable service.nnWould I return? Absolutely!
