My girlfriend and I have been to quite a few afternoon tea spots, in Toronto. This time we decided to try out Epoch Bar & Kitchen. With tax and tip it came up to about $85 per person. I enjoyed the ambiance, however the seating was quite uncomfortable. The table was small so we were constantly shuffling things around. The tea selection was nice, but there weren’t many choices. The scones, sandwiches and desserts, in my opinion, were just ok. The bread was dry. I definitely had higher expectations, as it was located in The Ritz-Carlton, and didn’t feel like it added up to the cost. The only thing that was top notch was the service. Our server frequent our table and made sure our tea pots were always full. Despite the 1-1/2 hr seating limit. We never felt rushed and was allowed to stay well beyond our limit.
We went for afternoon tea and with tax and 18% tip we paid $80 each. The portions were extremely small to a point where we were starving 1-2 hours later. The ambiance didn't really make sense for afternoon tea and in general the decor was very corporate. The sandwiches were nothing special, the scones were yummy but tiny, and the desserts weren't the greatest. The tea was one tea bag in a pot which was refilled with hot water. It took about 45 minutes between us getting served tea to getting served the food so by that point our tea had lost all of its flavour. You are definitely paying a premium only because it is at the Ritz Carlton. That being said, I have experienced luxury hotel dining multiple times and the experience, service, portions, and flavours did not add up to the cost. Our server was super nice though and honestly the only reason why I'm not giving a 1 star!
Dining here was very nice. Starting with the exquisite decor and interior, I was greeted by multiple extremely kind and helpful staffs. Both their food and cocktails did not disappoint one bit and were all delicious. I would definitely like to come again!
It's a great place to visit if you are in the downtown area, especially for its atmosphere Looking forward to summer time to use the patio outside Overall I was getting the vibes of a fine restaurant/bar somewhere in Paris or Europe, but not Toronto for sure. Service was nice and attentive, food was good, nothing crazy but good. What standards out for me is their cocktail selection, and unbelievable taste The look of it is also grabs your attention right away. Definitely would give 10/10 score to both cocktails I've tried here Will be coming back here summer time for some more, so get ready Parking: $30 to park your car for 4 hour limit
Definitely an improvement over the previous restaurant/bar. Cocktails were creative although I think they could expand the menu and all the food looked and tasted delicious. Settled on the spanglish fried chicken, organic salmon and lamb shank. Well presented and were flavourful. Service was attentive and friendly but not overbearing. Would recommend and return.
Great patio and nice ambience. Good service. Inside is nice but outside is patio is such a gem. Definitely go for the patio in the summer. The menu is kind of like fusion style. They have korean, curry, chinese etc. interesting combo. Unfortunately the food wasn’t impressive. A good spot for a couple drinks. Cocktails were amazing.
The overall experience was really good. Service was great and the decor was beautiful. As someone that has gone to most of the afternoon teas in Toronto more than once, this one wasn't my favourite. I've had afternoon tea at the Ritz before and maybe I was only biased to this particular menu this season. My favourite part of afternoon tea is the savory sandwiches and I felt like this time the sandwiches were very basic and not up to a luxury experience . The tea selection was great and they even offered a complimentary chocolate truffle when we were there.
The hotel is amazing and inside the restaurant I saw people having high tea which looked great. The outside terrace was underwhelming, the drinks were delicious and the focaccia was average at best. Not quite sure what was going on the sauce tasted like tomato paste out of a can, it did not have the traditional big air pockets that u would expect to see in a focaccia bread. Lastly the mozzarella cheese was just placed on top and not melted but not cold it was not good at all. The honey and the meat with the jalapeño great combo but I would highly recommend either melt the cheese entirely or just place slices of fresh mozzarella on top just before serving. They did a cute happy birthday truffle tray at the end which was delicious. I had high expectations because I’ve stayed at the hotel and it’s never disappointed but I’m in no rush to go back for $20-25 cocktails and a confused focaccia / flatbread.
Absolutely fantastic food and experience! Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The menu is well-presented, diverse variety and rich of local ingredients. Coziness of decor creates a relaxing ambiance for anytime of a day.
Excellent service. Food is good and ambience is lovely. I had half a dozen oysters and the fish and chips. My hubby had the lamb burger. They were all great. Oysters were small but fresh and delicious.
