The Capilano branch of the Edmonton Public Library is a disappointment that fails to live up to the standards expected of a community institution. My experience there was marred by glaring issues that reflect a profound lack of professionalism, fairness, and ethical consideration.nnOne of the most troubling aspects is the staff's aggressive attitude towards male patrons. This pattern of behavior suggests a clear bias and creates an unwelcoming environment that is inexcusable in a public space. Libraries should foster inclusivity, yet this branch appears to actively alienate certain members of the community.nnEqually concerning is the availability of adult comics featuring explicit sexual content, accessible to minors. This is a gross failure in responsible curation. While diverse content is important, there must be safeguards in place to ensure that material inappropriate for children is not freely accessible to them. It reflects a lack of oversight and a disregard for the library's duty of care.nnMoreover, the employees' conduct is appalling. There have been instances of staff members lying about their identities, claiming to be people they are not. This behavior undermines trust and raises serious questions about the integrity of the branch's operations.nnThe rules at Capilano seem designed to shield certain patrons from even the slightest discomfort, yet this courtesy is not extended to all. Employees appear perfectly willing to be dismissive, rude, and hostile towards those they personally dislike. This hypocritical application of rules exacerbates the branch's already glaring issues.nnOverall, the Capilano branch fails on multiple fronts. It is not just a poorly managed facility but an actively harmful one that fosters division, disregards ethical standards, and neglects its duty to the community. Drastic improvements are necessary to salvage its reputation and purpose.
I love the architecture of this location. It's actually a hidden oasis of a library.nnNot a fan of the shared washroom concept! Parents definitely have to accompany their children to the bathroom.
This is a new location that is very cool. The design is forward thinking. The interior is warm and inviting with lots of comfortable seating. The library is clean and well lit. It’s a satellite location so not a large location but that’s fine because if you don’t find what you are looking for you can easily order online. There is a kids play area and other community services available here. Just a really nice location.
Good Library, even though it is smaller the online search and hold system makes the available catalogue huge. I like to place a hold online and have it sent here as it is convenient. Now a new library close to the old one, very nice decor. Good parking.
What a beautiful library! A bit hard to find when you take the 4 Capilano from the University and get off the bus at Capilano Mall, then let Google Maps lead you on a runaround! But otherwise, worth seeing an experiencing!nnTake the 1B bus from Downtown to Capilano instead, and get off before it reaches Capilano Mall. Enjoy!
