Pretty new building, very well kept. I went there for babyvlap time, the facilitator was great and there weren't too many babies attending. It felt very personalized to the few babies attending :
The new building is fantastic! It's bright and airy, with lots of windows. There are three main areas children's, teens and computers, adults in addition to a glassed-in quiet space and a program room. The different areas are separated from each other, but are all easily visible from the main desk near the entrance.nnThe children's area has a really cool play place with gears and plastic tubes that kids can rearrange to make their own inventions. My son played happily there for ages and asked to come back. There are also comfy benches for reading stories.nnOther notes:n-The main bathroom is unisex. There are two smaller individual bathrooms which are also unisex.n-The checkout computers can be raised and lowered by pressing a button. My son was really happy that he could check out his own books without asking for help or dragging over a stepstool.
I've been going to the EPL since grade school and the Calder branch has never once failed to deliver the services I need! From picture books to video games to puzzles to common areas to study spaces to computer access to printing/copying/scanning/faxing... this place truly has it all.nnThe staff are ALWAYS incredibly kind, patient, knowledgeable, and helpful. They conduct themselves in ways that are appropriate for youth and adults alike, regardless of their backgrounds.nnThe building itself is very well-maintained and clean, including the massive & accessible washroom! I also appreciate the various bulletin boards with posters and info about local happenings.nnThe EPL's Calder branch is a wholly safe space for the community.
When I was there to ask for help to print and turn papers into a pdf they were very nice and didn't rush me since I don't speak good English. Both times I was there the employees were very nice and always had a smile on their face.
I don’t know what’s more disconcerting. The fact they allow random children around 3-4 walk right up to the door without a parent and the potential for walking right out the door while talking to strangers. Or the fact they allow male staff members to barge into the bathroom while a woman is taking a tampon out of the machine just to check occupancy of the stalls. No manners, at all. Easy to pay minimum wage when the employee hardly lifts a finger. Deplorable and utterly disgusting.
