Horrible experience! I took my son there as he was having difficulty breathing at night and coughing with chest pain from the cough, we sat in the extremely cold waiting room from 10:30pm till 11:30pm, then we were called for triage. We waited there around 1.5 hours before a nurse came to see us and from there we went back to the waiting room and sat on the very uncomfortable blue chairs until 6:30am. Any new patient who was arriving after us, was passing before us. But at some point they were all waiting in the rooms to be seen by the doctor, but none of the doctors was available for many hours. Exhausted, cold and barely able to open our eyes, we were called at 6:30am in one of the rooms to wait for the doctor, who actually came to see us in the room at around 7:30am. 5 minutes later, she was done with her consultation and we had to go for an x-ray. After we came back, we waited again around 1.5 hours and the doctor saw us for another 5 minutes to give us the prescription. My son also did some tests there, but they told us these will be ready within 48 hours, and he can start with his antibiotics after the results are ready. I then understood that no results come out in the weekend, and he had done the tests on Friday morning so we have to wait till Monday or Tuesday to start the antibiotics.nThe same night after we had left the hospital exhausted, my son woke up choking not able to take his breath, his situation got worse, probably from being exhausted the night before with no sleep. We're still waiting for the results for him to take the antibiotics and he asked me never to take him again to this hospital!
I went twice last month. My 20 month old granddaughter had minor surgery. The staff was amazing. We were in the new wing, and all the installations were top-notch. I went back for my pregnant daughters ultrasound. We were taken to the exam room 15 minutes past her appointment time, and then we waited there 1 1/2 hours before the technician came to do the ultrasound. All this time, her bladder was going to explode. The ultrasound went really well, the technician was fantastic explaining everything we were seeing. Then we had to wait for the doctor to come.... another 30 minutes! Her appointment was at 12:30 we left at 3;15! We were told that was normal!
They literally told each other that they forgot about us they thought I couldn't hear them and than proceeded to try and cover for it and guilt trip us into staying longer with our kid. We're sitting in a room getting attacked by him because of his behavior issues and they have the audacity to swear at me for the crime of asking for his hospital card so we can leave. We would have waited till the next morning without ever seeing anyone, and they put labels to not leave the room and that no, they did not forget about you so really they do everything in their power to make sure people have the highest chance possible to be forgotten and the problem can never be corrected if you follow their rules. All the staff but one nurse and the triage people were rude to the point of being offensive, again, they swore at me for politely believe me, I was too exhausted to be rude and literally weeping since we just realized that we would not get any help after our worst day ever with our soninquiring with my wife if we even cared about the hospital card at that point since we're not planning to go back there. Children's Hospital gives a much better service, not even close. If 811 tells you to go there, tell them my story, I'm calling them back to explain how bad an advice it was to send us there despite knowing it was an hour and half drive for us. Result, we left the house a 6pm, got back at 2am and only had exhaustion and despair to show for it. Has to be a form of negligence, I'm no lawyer, but has to be.
All hospitals have their pros and cons. The pros here is that they genuinely care for the well-being of your child, which is most important.nnThe cons: I had both my children at this hospital or I should specify, my wife did. I was just along for the ride and both times were different experiences. I won't go into details simply because they did everything they could to make a natural birth happen, but in the end a c-section was required.nnIn May 2024 my son, who was 1 years old turning 2 in July, had strep, which cause 2 abscesses in his throat, which cause a blood clot. The ENT was the one making the final decision on what scans needed to be done, they said a ct scan so they can see everything, but the infectiology department wanted to have final say and did not want to do it. finally we had to complain to several nurses and doctors, and we had to use logic to make them realise that the ct scan was necessary. they finally gave in and did the scan... thats how they discovered the blood clot. had they not done the scan, we would never had known it was there, and the clot could have made its way up to his brain and he could have died.nnMy son was in there for 10 days. over the course of 10 days I witnessed the worst communication between staff member i have ever seen anywhere.nnMy son was on anti-coagulants for the blood clot. it had been 2 days on a certain dose, and the day staff said that his next dose which was going to be done by the night staff will be a higher amount to try and speed it up. this was PRESCRIBED to him, yet in comes the night crew with the old prescription for the lower dose, and when we asked them about it, they said it was not in his file.nnThis situation of information not being passed from shift to the next happened almost every single day we were there.nnMy son was isolated due to the infection. They said he needed to stay in isolation for 5 days; but when we asked is it 5 days from the first dose of anti-biotics, or 5 days from when they changed to a different anti-biotic... the staff was clueless.nnI am frustrated for the staff that has to deal with this, as they are the ones eating the brunt of it from parents.nnI cannot fathom that in this day and age a doctor and/or a nurse that is checking up on someone, and needs to prescribe them medication, of any kind including being allowed to go out of their room after isolation that they are not walking around with a tablet of some kind that would open up the patients profile while the doctor/nurse is still in the room so nothing can be missed.nnThe patient turnaround is very very important. Had the anti-coagulant been changed when it should have been we would have been out of the hospital much sooner. considering the staff telling my wife and I that they were short on rooms, and more people coming in, it seems there is a big problem with patient turnaround, and it seems that much of that can be pin pointed to the fact that information is being missed or not passed on.nnPlease for the love of god, get these medical professionals a freaking tablet to bring in the room with them, it would make their work and the patients stay much easier and quicker.
Worse ever .nThe nurses, staff, and doctor don't seem to care. The minimum waiting time is seven hours, regardless of the condition your child is in. When I inquired about it, they said there was only one doctor, but I'm not convinced there was even one.nIs there any humanity left among the politicians in this province? We're talking about the well-being of children.
