I had to wait long to be seated and to order. I ordered Chicken Dum Biriyani - it was too bitter from the flavours of some spices overpowering. Would not buy this dish again. There was quite a good amount of food in one serving though.nnGreat atmosphere to dine in.
We have ordered Tandoori Mandi through Uber n we have picked up from there. We bought snacks as well. Mandi rice was good and tandoori chicken was not juicy at all it was very hard, I will not recommend the snacks from this store it’s very oily. Ullivada we bought was dark colour, dear “Theravada “management please change the oil once in a week
The food at this Restaurant tasted like it had been reheated multiple times over. It was far from fresh and lacked any semblance of flavor. It's clear that freshness is not a priority for them, and it seriously impacted the dining experience. We ordered mandhi and chatti choru. Mandhi was cold at first and we asked about it and the server reheated the food. And the fish fry for chatti choru was like burned and it doesn't look fresh at all. Overall the food was not good at all...
My fellow mallus please note this before deciding to rush to this place when you crave naadan snacks.nnThe snacks at this restaurant were very disappointing. The chicken puffs contained almost no masala except for a small amount seen on the surface, in the attached picture. After several bites, I had to open one up to check, only to find two tiny pieces of chicken.nnWe also ordered pazhampori, egg puffs, ulli vada, tea, and coffee. While the tea and coffee were nice, the pazhampori and ulli vada were cold, oily, and seemed to be at least a day old. The egg in the egg puffs was rotten and smelled awful.nnI also would like to highlight the poor customer service provided by the staff present at the time, as no interest was taken by them to address our complaint when we took it to them.
I must write a review about them. I couldn't resist going back for a second round within a week, and some of my friends became regulars just for their 'Adicha chaya'.nnLet's start with their service—it deserves an applause for sure. We were there at 3 am, and the staff was all happy with a smile and ready to serve. Their energy is commendable unlike having a tired and weary face at that hour. They were also quick to fix any issues, like when our fish curry in paal kappa had only one piece of fish—they promptly brought us an extra plate.nnNow, onto the food—Each dish was so close to authenticity that you feel like being back in Kerala and it was all so delicious. My personal favorites were the Paal Kappahave it hot and not home delivered, Al Fahaam on rocks, and the chicken biriyani with mutta. Unlike many places in Toronto, where they serve Malabar biriyani as a mix of just ghee rice and chicken roast, Their's seemed more authentic. Mixed/Layered kizhi porotta was a creative take on the kizhi porotta, with the mix of egg, beef, and chicken, though a tad too spicy for my taste.nnThe ambiance was also on point, with soft, romantic Malayalam songs playing in the background. I loved the quote frames on the walls—they added a nice touch of uniqueness. The bathrooms were clean and tidy, which is always a plus.nnThe only downside for me was the use of disposable plates, but I understand the importance of hygiene, especially in these times.nI would wholeheartedly recommend Tharavadu to anyone craving a taste of Kerala. The prices were reasonable, making it a perfect spot for all the Malayali immigrants longing for a taste of home without breaking the credit card. I have written quite a long review but they truly deserve it. Plus, if there's something you didn't like, just let them know—they're more than happy to make it right for you.
