We were welcomed by a cheerful staff. Everything we ordered was delicious. The service was great. The whole atmosphere was inviting. We will be back to try the other dishes.Food: 5/5

Tansen Izakaya is a new entry to the busy Japanese street food landscape in Edmonton. Upon first coming up to the restaurant, you will see neon lighting flashing across the breadth of the external facing windows. Inside, it has a pretty cool vibe...probably from the younger university students that often return here. The service was ok. It feels like because the restaurant is new that the service was not consistent through the night. It felt a little disinterested and there were long wait times for someone to come. The food was similarly ok. We have been so blessed to have very high end izakaya offerings in YEG so this seemed to be more catered to the students in the area. The price points were accordingly very affordable. Presentation was lovely, though. 3 x

I came here with my friends after we have finished our workout. The food portion not too big for asian guys like us. The price are reasonable and the service was good. A Vietnamese waitress was so cute and welcome. Recommend this place in case you wanna try a Japanese food. They have a 20%discount in different menu everyday. BTW, deep fried chicken karaage was so oily.

Checked out this new Japanese restaurant. Nice atmosphere and services. We ordered deluxe sushi and stone grill. Food quality was good and it was also fun

My wife and I went to Tansen for lunch today. The restaurant came across my Instagram feed yesterday and it struck me as something worth experiencing! We were not disappointed!! The service was amazing. Joyce, our server, was so happy, bubbly and excited, while also a little nervous, due to this being my first experience with Japanese food. The food was incredible and the service from everyone was beyond what’s expected when going to a restaurant. We will definitely be going back! If I could give more than 5 stars, I absolutely would!!

I ordered the Goma ramen and the flavour was great! Although it had too much oil in the broth. For my sides I ordered chicken heart & pork belly skewers, tasted yummy but was a very small portion. The restaurant itself is beautiful with great decor. Staff was super nice and would refill our water every few minutes.Food: 4/5

Affordable Izakaya This Japanese style izakaya is right beside the hospital and a short walk for the university. The menu offers an assortment of bite size Japanese favourites. I tried the following: - Assorted sushi 10 pieces - 2 pieces each of salmon, tuna, hamachi, mackerel and prawn were quite large and tasted fresh too. - Stir fried udon with chicken - not a lot of chicken but the udon was yummy and cheap too. - Salmon collar - deep fried and a bit dry . Not for me. - Tonkotsu black ramen - fine but not will not satisfy a “Ramen Snob”. - Ika gaio - deep fried squid tentacles were super yummy. If I had a beer it would have been heaven! This place shows that Edmonton can serve decent sushi! Overall another much needed cool eatery near the university.

Came in on opening day and the atmosphere was absolutely wonderful as soon as you walk in. The decor was beautiful and the servers was really sweet. Trina served us and she was absolute delight helping us through their menu items. We ordered lots, but we enjoyed the chef’s choice sushi and the shaka shaka fries a lot! Highly recommend for an amazing experience.

Friend and I walked by the place. The images of foods seemed delicious. Lots of dishes and options on the menu made us hard to decide. We ended up with the Chef's Choice Deluxe Sashimi and a couple of sets of rolls. I was so glad we made a wise decision. The Sashimi were fresh and tasted great, and so were the rolls. The layout of the place is so cozy and relaxing. The services were busy, yet we felt perfectly taken good care of. Will come back to try other stuffs. Parking: There were some street parking free for 2 hours.
