I recently visited Sumoki Yakitori Bar during their soft opening. While I see potential for improvement, I hope they can work on the size, prices, and taste of their skewers. Compared to the skewers at other Japanese Izakayas, theirs seemed smaller and pricier, and the flavors still have room for improvement. Their service is good, and the owner kept asking how the food was, to which I provided my honest feedback. I do see that they have passion and are attentive to customer feedback. Overall, I would rate my experience 3/5 for their soft opening. However, I will come back again for another chance once everything is in place and they start serving alcohol
Had dinner with my parents during their soft opening. It was only their 3rd day of operations. The food we ordered were all tasty. The agedashi mochi was my favourite. The tsukune chicken meatball skewer was another favourite as well. The two servers were both very attentive and friendly. They kept checking up on each individual table and would chat with patrons as well. The restaurant decor is really nice and comfortable. The restaurant is a bit small, so it's best suited for smaller groups. The music was a bit loud, but we were still able to hear each other when chatting. Some of the items on the menu are a bit expensive. The skewers were expensive as they're priced per individual skewer. Overall, it was a great experience and I'll definitely be returning.
Excited for a Japanese Izakaya Bar to be opened in Unionville. I was here for the Soft Opening, service was great; they apologized that they won’t have the liquor license yet but they are very helpful and attentive! They have good options for Vegetarian as well. I’d come back! Vegetarian options: They have a full selection of vegetables skewers available, as well as vegetarian appetizers available like grilled Mochi, salad, cucumbers with miso, grilled rice ball etc.
We came during their soft open. No liquor license yet, the server said it depends on the city. There is limited parking outside the restaurant, so we parked on an inner residential street. We ordered Tsukune, Momo, Kawa, Toro, and Sumoki Crispy Wings. The Sumoki Crispy Wings only came with 2 wings and 2 drums... At $16.99, the price was quite hefty for just 4 pieces of chicken. The Tsukune was the best out of everything. Everything else was quite ordinary. Service was a little bit overly attentive, such as constant reassurance that the food is coming, although we never rushed or even made eye contact with them. At the end of the night, they asked for feedback, but when I gave an honest opinion on a menu item, they did not accept the feedback and said the dish was served the way it was intentionally. The renos and ambiance was very nice though, but I'm not sure if I will be back anytime soon... maybe wait a few months after their official open.
Enjoyed the food here tonight and the service was superb. We were constantly checked on if everything was ok and owner apologized for time for the skewers and kept updating on how long it would take. It’s small efforts like this that makes a customer happy! We ordered the agedashi mochi, sumoki crispy wings, mentai carbonara udon, chicken ball skewer, pork belly skewer, beef skewers. All the dishes were delicious. I especially love the mochi and chicken ball skewer, that I ordered another order for these dishes after finishing the first. Love the vibe of the restaurant. Will definitely be back.
Comfortable restaurant with some of the best customer service I've ever had. I enjoyed the negima yakitori the most, followed by the age mochi and dango.Food: 5/5
I am a good fan of yakitori, before I had to travell all the way to downtown to have some of it. Finally we can have a good restaurant closer. Came in today with my gf to give a try of this new restaurant. The atmosphere, decoration and the music are very cool. Its feel like an izakaya with a modern touch. The service was excellent, even when the servers were very busy they kept checking up on us. Now to the point, I wasn’t expecting much of the food. But they surprised me, the food was top notch quality and detailly prepared. The chicken meatball was very unique and tasty, and the other plates were as good too. All their skeewers were grilled by charcoal which took a little bit longer to be served, but the wait worth it 100%. The sumoki wings was also very very good, I have never tried a wings similar, very crunchy and the sauce was spectacular. They also have indoor parking in the building. The price was on the higher side, is understandable since the food was prepared with good quality ingredient. The choices was a little bit limited but the server said that they will keep adding more items to the menu eventually. Definetely I will be coming back for more yakitoris.
Friendly and energetic environment , amazing tapas and skewers, mostly of the food are small portion which is good for two. Just parking is not enough which is ok.Food: 5/5
I recently checked out Sumoki shortly after their opening on Unionville Main Street, Markham. The yakitori was a real treat. The relaxed atmosphere was just what I was looking for, making it a great spot to enjoy some good food and catch up with friends and family.Food: 5/5
As you walk in there is a beautiful scent similar to the high end hotel scent. The Tsukune chicken meat ball with the egg yolk sauce was so delicious. I am ordering a second order now as I am typing because it was so flavourful and beautifully marinated. Dipping it into the egg yolk sauce was a perfect balance. The zucchini with torched mentai kewpie mayo was tasty. Usually, I don't like greens but the mentai kewpie really brings out the flavour. The AAA beef tenderloin, I find it a little dry and on the colder side. But the giant jumbo scallops with butter one order comes in two was delicious. The age Mochi was unique, I haven't had it at other izakaya places. But the centre area does rely you to dip it back to the sweet soy sauce otherwise it's a little bland. The chuka baby octopus comes with nori and some wasabi green peas. Service was nice and friendly, the staff kept refilling water and recall I wanted hot water. They explained the some of their recommendations on the menu. Overall, delicious food. I am looking forward to when they serve alcohol and will come back to try more items on the menu!
