Save-On-Foods

I'm not Canadian and Thursday night was my first experience at Save-on-foods. With a name like Save-on-foods, I expected it to be the Dollarama of supermarkets, but it was surprisingly upmarket. The shop is well laid out, tidy, with a good bakery section and a great selection of local and international products.nnI liked the radioactive green floors and the special prices were available by signing up for a card while I was at the checkout. Shop was great, I didn't think it was especially cheap a name like Spend-more-on-foods just wouldn't work, especially compared to UK and European prices .. but am just learning that everywhere in Canada is hugely more expensive than the UK.

The friendliest service ever! Laurie was the BEST after we had some issues at another store with an online order. She was so great at explaining everything, super friendly and so understanding. Both my partner and I love this store and was so nice to have such amazing customer service. We will definitely be shopping at this location only from now on!

A nicely stocked, clean store with ample free underground parking. However, when I last shopped there Oct. 6, several items had shelf tags that made no mention of the items' prices as can be seen in the two photos below. This made for an inconvenient shopping experience and resulted in me not buying these items as I have no clue what their price even is.

A few minutes ago I went there to get 5-6 items. I was having some problems with the self checkout machine. It kept saying there is an unscanned item in the bagging area I was double checking to see if I have scanned everything which I had including the paper bags and the security guy moved from his area and stood in front of me like I’m a shop lifter or something and after a staff came to see whats going on and verified that everything is accounted for he left. I make enough to not steal 50$ of groceries thanks for the respectful treatment. If I was not a coloured skin person would he still stand on guard in front of me? I highly doubt it.

It's a nice location, and some of the staff are friendly and will actually say hello, but that's it. The meat and produce are expensive and they aren't even great quality being sold. The prices for most products in the store don't match the quantity and quality. The only reason to shop at this location is if you have their rewards card set up and have are a student at the Univeristy for their discount. Also, the Univeristy discount is only good for students at UofC, they will not accept any other Univeristy/college students ID for the discount, which makes no sense as all students are struggling.
