As an avid coin lover, this place has been on my bucket list for years. My late-father and I collected coins for years, from the Royal Canadian Mint. He was never able to make it here but I was so glad I did.nnI almost wasn't able to get a tour due to some major miscommunication between myself and a lady on the phone about when I should book. An amazing woman by the name of Amber was able to swoop in and help me and my family get 3 tickets.nnThis was my super bowl while in Ottawa. Seems small for some but for others, it's their passion. Upon entry, you'll notice how old and historic the building is, and still beautiful to this day. There are various little spots to take photos on your way to the entrance and eventually to the gift shop which anyone can visit.nnThe gift shop is top-notch. Hundreds of coins here. It's nice to be able to see them in person prior to purchase. They also have puzzles, sweaters, coin collection cases, etc. All the staff that I dealt with were so nice, helpful and friendly.nnThe tour itself, was so great and informative. The tour guide I forget her name, blond hair lady, was fantastic and very knowledgeable. She answered questions and gave us lots of time to see everything around us, and take it all in.nnI'll definitely be recommending this experience to anyone visiting the Ottawa area and I look forward to visiting again next time we're in Ottawa.nn5/5n
This is a good tourist spot to learn about how gold and silver coins are made. The tour is 45 minutes long and very informative. Though you won't be able to take pictures or video on the tour. There is a Gift Shop where you can hold à gold bar. The tickets are $12 plus tax.
Was turned away the first day because they have designated slots for the tour that can fill up. You won’t know this until you show up in person. They also don’t allow pictures during the tour. I bought some sample sets and black toonies but those are actually made in Winnipeg
I had a wonderful visit with my child in April 2024. She enjoyed seeing the touring areas at an accelerated pace thankfully staff was able to help with that and she enjoyed seeing all the coins, silver bars, large gold coin, and other such things. It was my second visit and it was great. They also had picnic tables outside where we had a snack before walking onward towards Rideau Hall. I’d liked to have posted better photos, but they all have my child in them.
It was really fun. You get to see the actual workers and machines that make our silver and gold coins. During the tour you get a friendly informed guide. We were lucky and only had 5 people in our group.
