Parking was surprisingly limited considering we went in the middle of the day on a weekday during the winter. The first parking lot was full, and the additional parking area was also full even though there was no sign indicating it. We were lucky that someone was just leaving a spot, otherwise we would have had to look elsewhere.nnOnce inside, the museum layout is very well done and easy to navigate. The bathrooms were clean, and there was a nice mix of exhibits covering a little bit of everything, which pleasantly surprised us. There are also plenty of interactive exhibits and hands on activities for kids, which helped keep them busy and engaged throughout the visit. Overall, it was much better than we anticipated and definitely worth a stop if you’re in the area.
Awesome place to visit with kids. Informative with lots of different genres galleries to explore. We stayed there for almost 4 hours but still felt like we were rushing through ; definitely a must go and should plan as a full day event. Time is never enough specially if you love to read and view the numerous informative cards per artifact and videosnMultiple locations to sit and rest, also a good cafe with food choicesnDefinitely recommend!
Amazing place to take little ones and adults alike. Lots to learn and do, including the free short movies in the basement! My 3yr old loves it here and our 1.5yr old is starting to like it more with each visit. We've got a season's pass so if we go and it's too busy we don't feel like we need to stay all day. The food at the café is pretty good but of course pricey and we wish the paid parking was a little cheaper but you can sometimes find free street parking nearby if you're willing to walk a block or two. Excited to see what new exhibits and displays are coming in the future!
I visited the Canadian Museum of Nature in Ottawa not long ago, and overall it was a memorable experience — especially for anyone interested in natural history, fossils, and wildlife. The museum is housed in the stately Victoria Memorial Museum Building, which combines heritage architecture stone, stained glass, carved details with modern touches like a glass central tower added during renovations. nnWalking through the galleries, you move through diverse themes: fossils and dinosaurs, mammals, birds, geology, marine life, and Arctic environments. The Fossil Gallery was a highlight — seeing dinosaur skeletons and ancient marine creatures up close gives you a tangible sense of deep time. The Bird Gallery and Mammal Gallery also impressed me with their detailed dioramas and species variety. nnI appreciated how many exhibits include interactive or “hands-on” elements: the “live” insect / invertebrate displays, touch stations, and immersive storytelling exhibits add energy to the space. Also, temporary and feature exhibits such as The Man Who Planted Trees offer fresh perspectives and variety beyond the permanent galleries. nnOn the downside, when I was there the noise level rose in busier rooms, especially with children in tow, which made some exhibits harder to absorb fully. I also found that a few sections seemed slightly dated or in need of refreshment to maintain visitor engagement. nnI spent around 2½ to 3 hours exploring. For a casual visitor that’s enough to see the highlights; for someone keen on pausing at every exhibit, more time is justified. Overall, the museum offers a rich, educational, and often moving experience. If you’re in Ottawa, it’s absolutely worth a visit.
Mind blowing experience, 5 floors of museum artefacts that would excite anyone especially younger generation. From insects, to fossils, water based, artic and earth flora and fauna. An amazing place to spend an afternoon.
