There are lot of great art in here. Many different exhibitions. Some of the paintings are exquisite, if you start following the brush strokes you can get lost for hours, trying to imagine the creation of the painting. Great way to spend the day. You need to be interested in art or willing to learn. If you are just here to take a look around you may not like it as much, still you will enjoy the space. The space itself is extremely large and just the shear architecture will mesmerize you. I can just come here and sit my day through. You should definitely visit if you have the time.

Beautiful building with beautiful art.  The first stop should be their cafeteria.  The food was delicious!  The best butterscotch pudding I have ever tasted.  The salad bar was light fair, heavy on great flavours.  It was a great way to start the tour.

I visited the gallery Canada day weekend - they also have free entry on Thursday evenings. The architecture is simply stunning - you can see Parliament through the windows on the second floor, there's lots of light, an indoor pond and even an indoor courtyard. My favourite part by far was the Forty-Part Motet, found inside the Rideau Chapel (accessible through the garden/courtyard).

Inside the chapel are 40 standing speakers in a large circle; each one playing a recording of a singer's voice. You'll find several benches in the middle to rest your legs. When you sit/stand in the middle and close your eyes, it actually seems like there is a chorus of singers around you. You can stand next to each speaker and hear the individual parts and voices. It was absolutely incredible and I hope it's a permanent installation because I'd love to see it again!!

Nice place to go and see different art style and some really classic ones.... If u love art you should give it a try. For me it was a wonderful experience and I guess will never forget it

This place is incredible! We met Picasso, but please read the small signs on the walls. In some exhibits you are encouraged to use your cell phones and others, it is strictly prohibited, as we found out from a very rude employee. You'd think we tried to steal a Picasso from the way we were treated. Unnecessarily rude and condesending. Other than that, the National Gallery is a must-see if you're in beautiful Ottawa. 
(Side note: I hate big cities (like Toronto). Ottawa may be a big city, the Capital of Canada, but it doesn't feel like a big city. There are streets that are open air markets, art sculptures all over, restaurant patios. It truly is a beautiful city!)
