What a great place. Tons of memorabilia everywhere. The kids were extra impressed with the decor. We had the fried pickles, lobster Mac cheese my favorite, seafood Alfredo, and steak and cheese sub. All were fantastic. I do wish the lobster Mac and cheese had a little more lobster though. A great spot for great seafood or traditional American cuisine.
What an unexpected experience! This was not our first choice of restaurant initially, but we will definitely be back in the future! All of the food was delicious, and it all tasted fresh. I am pretty picky about pizza, and this was fantastic. The kids portion of pasta was huge for my two-year-old, so I helped her, and that was also delicious. It's possible they make their sauce fresh? Yum! On top of it all, it's very reasonably priced being in downtown Bar Harbor! Come here, you won't regret it!
Though the original Route 66 actually runs right through our hometown in Central IL and we know that it never ran anywhere near Bar Harbor, ME- we loved their take on a bar/restaurant designed around the iconic and historical American route. The entrance is sort of hidden back off the street, but you can hardly miss it with the way it is designed. Inside you will find Route 66 themed decorations galore, and they even have little radios playing classic hits at each table that you can adjust the volume on which was pretty unique. As far as the actual food and service goes-we felt that there is room for improvement. Our waiter was kind, but we did get the feeling that they wished they were elsewhere besides waiting our table. It didn't feel personal, just felt like maybe they were not having the best day it was also close to the end of the day. In regard to our food: it did not taste bad by any means- but we did not feel it was anything to write home about for the price that we paid. We had the lobster dip as an appetizer, and then we both tried their take on a philly steak sandwhich with fries as that is one of our favorite things to try on our travels. Again, it was all decent, but it was not the best we have had for the price we paid just shy of $100 for our food and drinks. All in all, the atmosphere is a 10/10 and the food and service was acceptable. I do recommend you try it for the experience and to form your own opinion. We have eaten many places in our travels so naturally our opinions on certain dishes may just be picky according to others. We ourselves would eat there again for the sake of giving it a second chance, though it was not our favorite during our trip to Bar Harbor this first time around.
This was an unexpected delight! I had the Lobster Roll my first and I think I ate it in 5 minutes it was so good. The decor is awesome and there are little details all over the space. If you know someone who is really into the 50's/Americana they will LOVE this place!
Ate at this restaurant in 2017 on vacation and was looking forward to eating at it again in July 2022 when we went back on vacation. This restaurant is hands down my favorite restaurant I have ever been at. Staff is kind and friendly and the overall atmosphere is incredible. The food is even better. We ate here twice because it was so good I got the old timer burger. I am genuinely contemplating making the 11 hour drive again only to come back to this restaurant.
When we lived in Bar Harbor, we would come here once a month. This is a great place and very fun. Tons of memorabilia items. It is affordable and friendly service. My both children always enjoyed their dinner here.
It was pretty busy when we went but the staff did well. The lobster roll was delicious. Others in my group enjoyed their food. Two people really liked the lobster mac-n-cheese — it looked really good but I’d didn’t try any. We visited 10/13/2022
Cute restaurant/diner with a 1950s theme. They have a lot of trivia/memorabilia from the 1950s. I got the lobster roll and he got the baked/stuffed haddock for dinner. We both enjoyed our meals and the fun atmosphere. Service was friendly and polite.
An enjoyable meal. This is one of the few restaurants in Bar Harbor area that we were able to make a takeout order with after 5 p.m. Even though we did takeout, the inside decor of Route 66 is quite elaborate. It is filled with classic Americana, matched with a 1950's dinner menu aesthetic, while implementing current cuisine. Overall, an enjoyable meal and worth a visit.
We came in by accident. It's not on the main Street. Found a magical place. Great Rock music and atmosphere. The food came quickly, hot and super good. Portions are great and prices are really good. Highly recommended
