The Veranda
"Since 1986 The Balance Rock Inn has been offering luxury accommodations for the summer season in Bar Harbor. The original restaurant begain in 1998 serving prix fixe dinner in our breakfast room. Although popular, we wanted to offer a service to complement the hotel. The Veranda Bar now offers innovative cocktails and food with an unprecedented view of Frenchman’s Bay.We present a seasonal cocktail menu with only fresh made mixers, syrups, and infusions.Product local to New England is the main inspiration in the kitchen. Our menu changes weekly depending on the ingredients local farmers have to offer. Check out our “partners” page for more information on the farms we source from."

The best dining experience in Bar Harbor! The food was really amazing. We had the quail and the oxtail as appetizers that were accompanied by tasty bread and butter. For the main dish we ordered the scallops. Absolutely delicious! We also shared the chocolate cake with the cardamom ice cream. Eric served us and did a wonderful job with food and trip suggestions
We could only get in for dessert and cocktails. Richard and Siera treated us like royalty. The dessert was the best dessert I had in my life. The dessert chef made my dessert grain and starch free. It had tiny marshmallows on it. I haven't had marshmallows in 15 years since having to give up starch, gluten and grains. The cocktail was so beautiful and entertaining and delicious. Will definitely go back but this time we will make sure we attempt to make reservations in plenty of time. Thank you Richard, Sierra and the dessert Chef. This day was the best day of our entire vacation thanks to Richard.
My wife and I went here for drinks and desserts. She got a lemon drink which she said was one of the best cocktails she had ever had. I got a blueberry soda cocktail which lacked blueberry flavor and did not taste very good. You can see that the desserts were very small. They had a lot of flavor but not worth it for the price. The service was exceptional and while we did not order dinner seeing the dishes come out of the kitchen was interesting. We heard a waiter explaining a dish to someone and the waiter advised that the grass in the dish tasted "grassy". If you are looking for a nice fancy sit down restaurant I would recommend Havana over this place.
Very good food. The waiter was professional and polite. He introduced every dish when he was serving them. We loved absolutely everything we’ve ordered. Friendly staff and also beautiful ocean view. Definitely recommend!
We came just for drinks and were seated at the fire pit. It was cold, but the fire felt nice and there were blankets. We chatted with a group of ladies celebrating, which was nice. . We each had a nice cocktail, but they seemed under staffed and after waiting forever to order a second, we just went back to the hostess who found our waiter and we left. Would have loved to stay, but oh well.
Beware: none of the waiters wear a mask. I’m not sure if they are vaccinated. From one staff’s conversation with a nearby table, it seemed like some were not and refused to. As of this post, Maine has a law that requires people to wear mask indoors in public places, and it makes me uncomfortable that the restaurant is not following the law nor informing its patrons about its choice of not taking covid precautions. Onto the food - the food here is really good, the best we’ve had in bar harbour. The quail was outstanding, and the seafood was well prepared. The bread was a disappointment- doughy and dense, and everything was on the pricier side.
Wow, I was beyond impressed, my expectations were surpassed in every way. If you’re looking for fine dinning, this is the best place on the island. There are a very limited number of tables, so reservations are a MUST! Book weeks or months in advance… seriosuly, do it. The pork ravioli and goat cheese starter was bursting with flavor. The seared duck was juicy and cooked to perfection, and the wagyu beef was tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. Absolutely delicious!
Every course was superb! The ambience was great and the service was excellent. The Parker rolls and smoked butter…..perfect. Quail appetizer…..delicious. Venison…..10 stars. Unbelievable! I also had a mezcal specialty cocktail in a smoked glass….had three of them. Soooo good! This was one of my favorite meals.
This place honestly does not need great food to be worthwhile. The refined service, the beauty of the room and the excellent winelist/cocktails would be enough to make it awesome. That being said, someplace so beautiful should really have excellent food. The bread and the Amuse Bouche were probably the most memorable bites. The bread was giant popover looking rolls with some delicious butter but not enough for the massive piece of bread unfortunately The Amuse of apple sorbet with pumpernickel crumbles was literally inspired. We ordered every appetizer on the menu. Some like the onion loaf were weird but delicious. Others, like the grilled bread and pesto cottage cheese mixture ? were weird and just ok. Others, like the quail and foie gras simply did no justice to the high quality ingredients obviously used. There were no subtle layers of flavors, just admittedly beautuful food on a plate. The tempura scallops were tasty but fried scallops everywhere in the state of maine including food trucks were just as good. Three of us had the steak for dinner. The meat was good but the sauce demi glace? had a gameyness too it that I felt could be polarizing. Overall it was a solid 7. The Haddock was super fresh and delicious and the funnel cake thing on top of it was well executed. Overall don't expect the best dinner you ever had but it's still worth going for the view and being pampered. If you're staying at the hotel and want a fancy dinner it makes sense. That being said, we enjoyed our casual meal at Blaze around the corner a bit more for half the price to be honest.
A Truly intimate and cozy tasting dinner with white-glove service and fine dining experience to boot. We thoroughly enjoyed our tasting menu with wine pairing as we overheard the ocean. This place is really the go-to point if you want to experience fine dining while on vacation at Bar Harbor. All our wines paired perfectly and the dishes complemented each other. Couple that with blanket service after sunset to keep us warm at the veranda and the calming light of the pool behind us added to the overall experience of the vacation. We will be back to this venue again... someday.
