Pourhouse Restaurant

Pourhouse used to be my go-to in Gastown. But no more. I suggested going there recently with friends. When we arrived the host asked if we'd be eating, drinking or both. We were taken aback when informed that we'd have to sit at the bar if only drinking. The place was dead and six people seated at a bar isn't exactly conducive to conversation - strike one. We decided to stay anyway and ordered a couple bottles of water while perusing the menu. After deciding on drinks we were told they didn't have any draft beer on tap. Neither the host nor the server informed us of this earlier. Instead of apologizing we were arrogantly informed that "this a cocktail bar" - strike two. We decided to leave and settle our bill: $12 for sparkling water. Any establishment with an inkling of customer service would've comped this - strike three. You're out, Pourhouse. Time to re-train your employees in basic customer service.

One of my favorite places for a cocktail I the city. It's not cheap, but the atomsphere is nice and the drinks are too shelf. Enjoy an absinthe from their healthy selection.

Came for drinks. Got a Manhattan and an old fashioned. They were both made well and the servers had a good knowledge of alcohol. Will definitely come back. The restaurant itself is a nice cozy place. Can be a nice place to bring a date.

Lovely low light and very personal environment. Drinks are finely crafted and food is delicious.

Would not return. Server refused to ask the kitchen if it would be possible to substitute french fries for the chestnut gnocchi when our daughter has a nut allergy; he didn't take our drink orders - we had to ask for drinks; he never asked to re-fill our drinks when our drinks were done not even half way through the meal; the special was tasty, but portions were really on the small side; and the $30 burger was rather tasteless and boring with not even a piece of lettuce on it. We actually left this place and went to a second restaurant afterwards - it was all around disappointment.
