If your boat requires any repairs or upgrades, STAY CLEAR of NS Yacht Works and their employees- Rick or Mark. My suggestion is this- bring your business elsewhere. I had a terrible experience with this boat repair facility. I had multiple in person estimate consultations with Rick, who is one of the managers. I made very clear how much I spent purchasing the vessel ($45,000) and provided a clear budget that I had set aside for repairs (approx. $20,000-$25,000) and a list of the items I hoped to have done within that budget. I instructed NS Yacht Works to keep the upgrades and repairs WITHIN MY BUDGET and if my budget was maxed, not to do anything further and only do what they could within it. Although Rick provided a verbal commitment to pricing, he refused multiple times to actually provide a firm work order/contract for the entire scope of work. After paying for multiple weeks of dry storage for NS Yacht Works and their technicians to work on my vessel, I attended each day to track their progress as I was also paying by the hour for labour. Multiple days I would attend and see nobody there, or only present for a limited amount of hours. Certainly not every day for an entire day at a time. After requesting a cost update from Rick, he then provided a new cost estimate after I requested an update several times. He abruptly told me that costs had now exceeded over $40,000. In shock, I then demanded that NS Yacht Works cease all work on my vessel, provide a detailed invoice as to why costs had sky rocketed, and asked for proof such as a work order/contract and proof of worker hours showing such costs were incurred. I NEVER authorized over $40,000 in repairs by signed contract or in writing on my vessel. I feel that NS Yacht Works took it upon themselves to simply 'assume' that I was okay with spending such an absurd amount of money, and incurred the costs assuming what I would simply accept it and pay. What kind of processional outfit does business like that? I was charged over 100 hours to install a bow thruster, remove a few electronic screens on my bridge, install a power inverter with wires in my engine room, paint the bottom of the boat, buff the boat, and paint a new line around it. Even worse, NS Yacht Works charged me multiple times for the same item, including charging labour hours to read a manual on how to install bow thrusters. I didn't hire a professional outfit to read literature on how to install a part. This is all very clear on their invoice. I have tried multiple times to come to a resolution. I have asked and continue to ask for an explanation as to WHY or WHAT led NS Yacht Works to believe that they could simply do as they pleased and incur unlimited costs without periodic updates and/or authorizations from the customer. Rick and his associate Mark refused and continue to decline my requests to simply meet at my vessel to discuss with me and show me how the amount and outrageous hours on the invoice could be explained. As a matter of fact, I've been told that I am no longer welcome at their office. Real professional. Even worse, after asking them to cease work, they literally abandoned my vessel and left it in pieces, many things I was actually billed for but were not completed. I have posted those photos to their business page. I would not and will never be referring friends, family or even a complete stranger to this establishment.
