Mainayr Campground

If you want to camp near Bar Harbor but hate crowds, this is a good place. Small campground with large sites. Some hookups, some rustic, some waterfront on an estuary. Only one bathroom. No set up for washing dishes. Can hear the traffic on RT 1 otherwise quiet. Inexpensive. As long as you aren't expecting lots of extras and you prefer simple camping, you won't be disappointed. Owner is pleasant. No WiFi, great cell reception.

This is an amazing campground. The spots are private and almost all right on the waterfront. The facilities are a little older, but clean and well-maintained. The location is peaceful and quiet. If you want a KOA-style campground with activities, Internet, spots laid out in a grid, etc. this is not for you. If you want a quiet place to relax and enjoy the water, this is it. There is no Internet and no cell service (except for patchy AT&T a couple of places). The campground has hot showers, a washer/dryer, full hookups for RV's or spots just for tents, and firewood for sale. My husband and I were planning to stay one night but stayed 3 because we loved it so much.
