Went here for a medical appointment. Front desk staff are helpful. I greatly dislike the confusing main entrance off 12th. Difficult to access unless your in a vehicle - multiple entrances & try to wander around using a cane & difficulty walking looking for a specific entrance & one without stairs to complicate matters.nnThrough Emergency Department referrals I'd made it to see Dr Pierre Guy who is a lovely & busy man, Orthopedic Surgeon who was patient w my fractured pelvis issue, luckily no surgery needed, just a lot of guidance & after care.nnPhysio at the original diagnosing hospital had cut me off their services unexpectedly & no notice. I mentioned to Dr Guy that I was receiving no aftercare he quickly referred me to VGH Physio, Ms Courtenay John.nnA lot of exercises, guidance, patience & perseverence on both our parts - and a few laughs along the way. Felt I really needed a couple more appts to really get me more stable but I understand their patient quota is limited & set in stone.nnBoth departments are extremely busy & as an ex- hospital worker of 14 years they have a heavy workload. Was always treated with kindness from front the Emergency Dept to clinic front desk who keep everything organized to treatment doctors & clinicians. So thankful to have had the support and help when I most needed their professional TLC. Thank you everyone on my 'team'.nnP.S. The person who commented about the cleanliness of the hospital - that all goes back to when union contracts for Hskg Food & Security Services were contracted out. Hours were cut, workload was increased, pay was cut drastically, no benefits, etc.nnWhen presented to Emerg on a medical overnight stay..Bathrooms had run out of toilet paper & spare supplies are not left available in this busy area as they used to be. However our bathroom was supplied with a very expensive brand of large heavy-duty 'personal wipes'. After I was discharged I checked prices for same product in three drug stores & was shocked at the sticker price!nnFrom personal experience I do know these products are bought in bulk but perhaps a couple spare rolls of poop paper would be a thought. Then nursing staff can access & dispense it on a graveyard shift - with every bed occupied my room w 4 patients. There were several 'overnight' rooms for patients who required more testing, reviewed by specialists, etc.nnIn all my trips to appointments I saw lots of issues regarding 'cutting corners' or issues that could have been orchestrated better &/or with less waste of time & money - unfortunately the change of department protocols occured back in 2001 with the Liberal govt's 'contracting out' - just like the promise of 'cutting taxes' - never believe that line!nnNeedless to say, it's too late to have the care & attention that is needed to support the other medical departments. It may seem a small thing but when you're in hospital there are times where a supply of toilet paper shouldn't be too much to ask - and then replace it with one product that costs more than a store bought pkg of 24 rolls is ridiculous to say the least. Or do we need to bring our own bum gauze lest we have an overnight hospital stay.nnWe certainly DO need quality, experienced & trained staff & management of the same to continue and support the best medical treatment we need and expect when crises involves ourselves & thoes we care about.nnThank you medical staff for your kindness & assistance through a couple of really tough times.
Poorly managed hospital, with great nurses. The patient ran away, though he was under 24 hours guard. What did the hospital do? They kept the guards on duty to watch an empty bed for two days. I wondered how much they spent on that wasteful exercise. Nurses are super kind. Cai, Sarah and Another Sarah, Donnel... Are all angels.
I recently had ankle surgery, I spent three weeks on the orthopedic/trauma floor. The doctors and nursing staff were wonderful and professional, I know their jobs are especially challenging during Covid-19 and they work very hard. I cannot say the same for the two physiotherapists assigned to me; one was extremely rude with no bedside manner. Also, the hospital was not very clean. I realize the cleanliness could be a result of the hospital being short staffed.
I came in for a CT and found the two information desk staff to be incredibly rude when asked for directions and a face mask. I know health care workers are overworked and we are grateful for your service but.. Isn't the point of an information desk to provide information?
Got an appointment on Saturday for some ultrasound.... didn't have the doctor name etc.... MICHELLE level 5 reception helped me all the way to figure it out and escorted me in this huge labyrinth!nThank you Michele and Ela the specialist
