Inspired by the year of Quebec City’s founding on the very exact site of this Bar, the new 1608 Wine & Cheese Bar will offer one of the largest varieties of top Quebec cheeses in Canada, sourced from its unique Cheese Room, and coupled with the top wine offerings the world has to offer.

I stayed at the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac for two nights. The building itself is truly unique and without question one of the most beautiful and impressive hotel buildings I have ever seen. The location, architecture and atmosphere are exceptional, and the staff were consistently friendly and clearly made an effort to provide a pleasant stay.nnUnfortunately, not everything lives up to the expectations associated with a five-star luxury hotel.nnBreakfast is good, but certainly not outstanding. One detail that surprised me in particular was the coffee: there was no freshly prepared espresso-based coffee from a proper professional machine, but rather coffee from Nespresso capsules. For a hotel of this category, I would expect a higher standard.nnThe spa area was another disappointment. It feels somewhat dated, and especially around midday there were a large number of young children in the pool area. The noise level was extraordinary and, at times, the atmosphere felt much more like a busy public swimming pool than the spa of a luxury hotel. Of course, families are absolutely entitled to enjoy the hotel, but for guests looking for a relaxing spa experience, this is something to be aware of.nnThe standard rooms are also surprisingly small and fairly functional rather than luxurious. They are perfectly adequate, but neither the size nor the overall design felt particularly special.nnOverall, I would personally rate the actual hotel experience closer to a good four-star property than a true five-star luxury hotel. The magnificent building and the people working here deserve very high marks, but the rooms, breakfast and spa facilities do not quite match the extraordinary exterior or the expectations created by the Fairmont name.nnA beautiful and iconic place to stay in Québec City – but the experience behind the impressive façade could be better.
A friend and I stayed at the Château this summer. We had a wonderful experience! Our room was beautiful and it was amazing to be so close to the old part of city and enjoy the river views. It was our first time staying at the Chateau and my friend became a Fairmont gold member, so that made our experience extra special. We found the gold concierge staff members to be exceptional! They happily answered any question we had and always had recommendations based on our questions of what we could do and places we could go. Every morning at breakfast, Lisa was so patient with us and helped us to practice our French. Every evening, Leo welcomed us back like we were old friends and made sure we have a comfortable place to sit and play cards while we enjoyed appetizers and desserts. I recently decided to call the Château to inquire about a breakfast chia pudding that was served, wanting to know how it was made so I could attempt to replicate it at home and by chance Leo answered the phone. Once I identified myself to him, he immediately remembered me and my friend! He happily told me he would find out what I wanted to know and get back to me. Well, within 10 minutes he called me back with the ingredients and I can’t wait to try to make it at home and remember my time there! I would highly recommend staying at the Château de Frontenac if you are thinking about doing so!
Phenomenal location. Informative staff that take the time to make great recommendations. Conviently there is spa too! We loved the Starbucks in the terrace level. The staff were hilarious and made our daughter the sweetest drinks. Little things like that really make a family trip so much more memorable!
We had a wonderful visit to Quebec City. Staying at the Fairmont in old Quebec made it picture perfect. Breakfast at Place Dufferin and the pool were the highlights. The room was very comfortable and provided a cozy place to watch a movie after a long day. My friend was particularly impressed with the presentation of our room service order.nnWhat made this stay so nice were the staff. Ariel at the front desk created a warm first impression, Natalie our room attendant was attentive to detail and Maxime at Place Dufferin was exceedingly professional.
Fairmont Le Château Frontenac had been on our bucket list for quite some time, and we finally had the opportunity to spend a weekend there in late spring. Its location is ideal, just steps away from Old Québec, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with breathtaking views overlooking the St. Lawrence River.nnThe exterior of the hotel is truly magnificent. Its majestic château-style architecture makes it one of the most recognizable landmarks in Québec City. The hotel has been beautifully preserved, retaining its old-world elegance and historic charm. Walking through its halls genuinely felt like stepping into a period film, creating a unique and memorable experience.nnCheck-in was quick and efficient. Our guest room was spacious, spotless, and comfortably furnished with a touch of European-style elegance. While we were disappointed that our room overlooked a rather unattractive backyard instead of the river or Old Québec, the room itself was quiet and well appointed. We especially appreciated the Le Labo bath amenities, whose refined fragrances added a luxurious touch to our stay. The bathroom was immaculate, and the large walk-in closet provided plenty of space for both clothing and luggage.nnThe staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely hospitable throughout our visit.nnUnfortunately, we chose to have dinner elsewhere and missed the opportunity to dine at Bistro Le SAM, which we have heard offers a wonderful dining experience. We also didn’t have enough time to enjoy the hotel’s spacious indoor swimming pool—something we hope to experience on a future visit. It was also convenient to have a Starbucks located within the hotel, available exclusively for hotel guests.nnAs one of Québec City’s most visited landmarks, the hotel naturally attracts a constant flow of visitors. Although there is a designated seating area for hotel guests, the lobby often felt crowded, making it difficult to fully appreciate the tranquility and timeless elegance we had expected.nnOne final observation was the shopping arcade on the lobby level. While it offers added convenience for guests and visitors, it also gives the space a more commercial, tourist-oriented atmosphere. It reminded us of the shopping arcades found in some hotels in Asian countries. For such a historic and iconic property, we had imagined a quieter, more refined ambiance that would better complement its timeless elegance. This is, of course, a matter of personal preference, but we felt the commercial setting slightly diminished the distinctive old-world charm we had been looking forward to experiencing.nnOverall, we had an enjoyable stay. Fairmont Le Château Frontenac is an iconic historic hotel with remarkable architecture, an excellent location, and exceptional service. While the lively public spaces and our room view were slight disappointments, the experience of staying in such a celebrated landmark was still well worth it.
