Hôtel Clarendon

First let me say that the Hotel at first appeared very clean and most of the staff were very helpful and pleasant. My friends and I had rented 2 bedrooms and only stayed 1 night instead of the planned 4 nights. A bed bug was found when turning down the bed in one of the rooms late on the first evening. We immediately called the front desk and the 2 in the room with the bed bug were moved to a room in the back of the hotel. Apparently they had a bed bug problem affecting the rooms in the front of the hotel per the hotel staff person that assisted in the move. When check under the bed to make sure nothing was being forgotten we noticed that there was a white powder on the floor where the head board was. I noticed there was the same white powder under the headboard in my room and in the newer room at the back of the hotel. We chose to check out of the hotel due to this problem. We were charged a full nights rent for 2 rooms, we paid the bill because we just wanted to be able to check out and find another hotel.

I stayed at the Clarendon on a business trip with my colleagues. This also happened to be during Carnaval and the front desk was very helpful to let us know how it all worked. They also sell the effigies in the hotel. I used valet for my car and they were always very quick to get it for me. The parking options for Self park did not allow in and out privileges, so it was less expensive for us to valet since we left each day. The hotel is very close to many restaurants in Old Quebec.

I like hotel bars. Always have, always will. The one here (named the Charles Baillairge, I believe) needs a bit of work. The mirror one one side of the bar is unsettling, and drink specials are scrawled on it in silver marker, which makes it almost impossible to read. Wine prices seemed fine - $9.00 for a chardonnay and a Bordeaux. I think our waitress was named Melissa. She was great.

Loved the hotel! Great location as most reviews have stated. Rooms were fantastic. Staff was friendly. However, we wish they would have told us in advance about the construction occurring below our room every morning. Also, the bathroom door did not latch closed, but overall the room was clean and comfortable.

Great hotel. Great service. Good pricing. Valet parking fast and safe. Great location right across street from German market. Central in old Quebec to get to pretty well anything.
