Extendicare - Laurier Manor

Please make sure to go every day to check on your love one! And you need to be their doctor and be persistent for help. I did not have a choice and had to place my sister there but could NOT WAIT TO GET HER OUT, which is very difficult. Think twice if you have other choice! Not a good experience. Some staff were good but stay away from Marietta, PSW. She usually hide her name and is lazy.

I would like to say the staff have been really good and nice during the respite care. I understand a new building will be built but won’t be ready for some time. In the meantime you can do something about the environment to make it less clinical. First thing is to put fluorescent covers on the lights. Make better use of task lighting and have some more ambient light around such as in the sitting areas in the halls. Also use some coloured paint on the walls to cut out the glare from the fluorescent lighting. Since I have looked at many older LTCH homes, I noticed a better use of lighting and paint. The residents deserve a less clinical ambience. Not only them but the staff who work there deserve a more comfortable work environment. I look forward to you taking action on this. It is possible that some of the residents themselves will be less anxious with better lighting. I’m basing this comment on studies of lighting and dementia patients. Just to let you know Ottawa General Hospital has implemented covers in their emergency department. I think it is much more relaxing.

It was a very difficult family decision for us to place my father in a care facility but we did not regret it for a minute. The care he received during his 60-day respite stay was better than we ever dreamed he would get and better than we were ever able to provide him at home. We wish he could have been offered a place here but hope the care he will receive at the next place is as good. A special thank you to Sandra, Bukkola, Vasu, Merly, Regine, Marlene, Jackie, Irma, Thalia and the entire staff for all that you did for my dad. You are heroes!

When my mom first arrived 5 years ago or so, i was surprised by the home. It was so different than mom’s assisted living home. Since the pandemic Laurier Manor has really made positive changes with cleaniness and processes with communication to family members. The home is old so it does have the feel of a hospital, but the staff are what makes this LTC a home. The PSWs on the 4th floor are caring and so hard working. My mom can be a complainer but she really likes the staff. I am so glad she is happy here.

Laurier Manor is really important to me. It is my mom's home now. She received so much love. The nurses and PSWs on the fourth floor became her family during the pandemic where family members could not be there. I praise their efforts, their long working hours. Some of them were my moms' angels.
