I want to share an extremely frustrating situation so you don’t fall into the same trap. Always check the price of each item when the cashier rings it up. The issue I faced was with a pack of raisins—the cashier charged $9.99 when it was actually $5.49. I noticed this on the screen, and my eyebrows went up in surprise. The lady noticed my reaction and immediately corrected the price to $5.49. If I hadn’t caught it, I would’ve been overcharged by $5.50. Imagine if this happened with four items—you’d lose $20 for nothing. I wish they wouldn’t cheat their customers like this. If it happens to you, consider reporting it to the BBB.
Bombay Spices has two locations in Calgary east. The one in the north east is bigger than the one in south east; however, the SE store is well organized and has almost everything required for an Indian kitchen from a variety of flours, rice, legumes, grains, spices, herbs, oils, and lots of other things like various kinds of chutneys, thechas, papads, chyavanprash, mouth refreshers, some ayurvedic medicines, and whatever else one may need and think of.nnAlso, the store has an amazing collection of a plethora of ready-to-eat dry packaged snacks and frozen food. The farm produce, most of which stored in styrofoam boxes, is usually unbruised and unwilted. One may, also, get chiku/chikoo sapodilla, amla Indian gooseberry, raw turmeric, gunda fragnant manjack, mogri radish pods, kantola spiny gourd and more, in season.nnThe employees Kashyap, Gopal Sanya, Rutu, and Monica are hardworking individuals who are courteous, helpful, and cooperative. They manage the store well and keep the shelves full of stocks.n------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------nOn the downside:nnThe store has displayed notice on the entrance that there is no public washroom available in the store; nevertheless, in my view, the employees/owners should be liberal and behave like good human beings when some customers - especially children, elderly people, and diabetics - have an emergency and cannot control. Instead of adhering to the rules and making a big fuss, they need to cooperate and handle the situation patiently and tactfully.nnThe ugly experience of the mother of a child Review of Mr. Niraj Kakadiya - the father of the child - four weeks ago could have been avoided under any circumstances. A wise business or sales person would have averted such occurrences, for there is absolutely no benefit in hostile behavior and losing the customer/s for ever.nnUnfortunately, the answer posted by the owner is inhumane, appalling, and abhorrent.
My first time to come here for some small things. It’s not a bad place, the male employee with grey eyes was very helpful extra star for him. But did not appreciated the female cashier’s attitude for not letting me use the small bag for little spiritual items. She took the bag saying “it’s only for the use of produce items”. I think that was very stupid!!!!! Mind you-Small bags can be used for smaller and loose items as well. FYI -I did bought produce too and grabbed an extra bag for the smaller things I got. And that became a big issue with the cashier! I had no problem with other stores. I do not need to purchase a big bag for such a small item. And I know what the bylaw is for bags!!!!!
While I find great items from Indian selection, it has been happening way too often that they have expired products on shelf, as well as some products are even they are bad after you take home and tell them, they behave way too rude to replace the product. I have also been a victim of expired products where they remove expiry of thr product by removing the expiry which made my kid sick so bad. You should be careful when buying products from here. I hope they improve it, this is not ethical practice. You may be able earning few profit by doing this but you are playing with peoples health here. Hope this reaches to right person in the store.
You get almost all Indian apices and food items, even pre cut frozen vegetables, lotus stem, drums sticks etc which are rare to find, remember to check expiry date of amy product you buy, things are expensive as they are from India and it cost them more shipping etc. Also do get thr points accumulated in their mobile app.
