"Wind Cries Mary is a tucked away portal to experiencing the rustic riches of Vancouver Island, in the middle of Victoria’s downtown core. A warm and familiar setting for enjoying elevated cabin food fit for modern times. Our dynamic menu will have a nose-to-tail approach, utilizing all aspects of the local bounty and geared towards “sharing”. Well... this place lived up to the hype... and then some! Super cool concept here. Nice room, great staff, food is fantastic. The family style meal is what brings it home for me no pun intended. Let's you enjoy so much more than just your meal... really love this! I can't wait to go back and enjoy the omakase-like experience where the chef prepares a sampling of their menu items - I can't wait to get back! Add this to your must-visit list... you won't regret it.
Ummm - where do I even start? Decor - the whole restaurant is a vibe. The small patio is great for people watching, the front bar area is great for a busier feel, the back part of the restaurant is more intimate, then there is the back patio as well. It's astounding! Service - the staff is AMAZING. Very knowledgeable, very personable, and excited about the food and drinks. If you go multiple times I've now gone five times in five months.... they actually remember you AND the chef makes you a new dish that is NOT on their menu! Drinks - their extensive wine, cocktail, and mocktail list is divine. I haven't had a bad glass of anything yet! Menu - Folks - their menu changes with the season AND what is available from their suppliers. Which means - it's all fresh. If you are going with two or more people and you don't mind putting $79 pp do the Chef's Tasting Menu. Not only is the food high quality, but you get 9 dishes including a palette cleanser for that price. It's all family style all sharing AND you get individual tongs for serving. Make a reservation and head down. You will enjoy it!!!
Went for dinner with our great friends and we had a great time. We had the chef's selections and what a fantastic choice. I'm sure it changes frequently but from the salad to main course and the dessert were all fantastic. I would highly recommend the place. Just make sure you go on an empty stomach. It's filling. And make sure if you're going on weekend evenings to make a reservation.
The service here is amazing.... The presentation needs work however the food is excellent! I recommend getting the side dishes. Food can be a bit salty by itself. Our mistake. The dishes were all so flavorful and unique. Highly recommend. Make sure to book aheadFood: 5/5
Booked a large group event and everything was absolutely perfect. Shayla was so helpful and accommodating with planning the group booking and set menu. Food allergies were handled with care and attention, the service at the restaurant was impeccable and the food & cocktails were amazing! We’ll definitely be back again! We were visiting from Ontario, and had heard good things about this place, and were really excited about it. Unfortunately, it really didn't meet the expectations that we had. We ordered the potatoes, the ricotta toast and squid. To their credit, nothing we ordered was bad, but it also wasn't great, and for the price point, I'm not sure I would pay for that again. Their drinks are pretty neat, and were delicious. I think if I were to recommend this place, I would to someone going for a drink + snack, or a great first date place. However, if you were looking for dinner, I would probably pass. Just my 2 cents.
4.5 starts with this food quality can’t believe. Every food was taste burnt except pasta. Steak was awful taste and salmon was dry no taste on it. Overall had a really bad experience. $75 steak could something top notch. This can be a Bar not a restaurant.
Delicious food served family style. They recommend 2-3 plates per couple. We had three which was plenty. Great wine selection. Cocktails were tasty. Service was outstanding. Was busy but we were able to get a table without a wait. Would try the chef's choice next time for sure.
Went with high anticipation. Loved their concept but was somewhat underwhelmed. The highlight of this entire experience was the ricotta roast, I know it's simple but it was just perfectly done. Mac and cheese was great and fried chicken came way after 50 mins of ordering and fell short of anticipation. Drinks were watered down, service felt Cold. Lovely atmosphere and great room.
Popped in on a whim and oh my god. Never in a million years would I have thought to combine blueberries with tomatoes. Or that I’d fall in love with a brown butter sauce with a hint of orange. Had zero idea that I even liked trout, but here we are. I savored every bite and am still marveling at how it all came together. Would definitely come back!! Easily one of the best meals I’ve ever had.
