This was a cool venue. I was not expecting a beach vibe and was pleasantly surprised when I saw the large sandy beach dining area. Too bad we did not get to eat there though. I ordered the Fish & Chips but was quite disappointed. The fish was not fresh, it tasted dry, like it was bought from the discount bin at a supermarket. The chips potato wedges were flavourless and not cooked well, they were crispy on the outside but all crystallized potato on the inside. To be honest, it would have tasted better if they had deep fried the fish & chips rather then oven backed them. Nobody is eating fish & chips because they are trying to eat healthy. Lastly, the coleslaw. If you like eating raw cabbage, you will love it. I think they needed to premix it and let the flavours marry for a day at least. Not worth $18 in my opinion.
This was recommended by a friend to visit while we are at the strathcona hotel for a wedding! Never had a French bulldog kronenberg blanc and peach bellini in a bucket before LOL The nachos were good, but topping weren't quite done underneath, it was still a bumpin' place!
I was visiting Victoria with friends for my first time ever for the weekend from Vancouver. We were invited to checkout Rooftop Patio, they were extremely welcoming and even though I heard how sick it was, I had NO CLUE there was a sandy beach ON the rooftop! It was very cool & IG worthy we took LOTS of pictures lol. The watermelon steak salad was amazing, they had a really cool drink special I forget the name of, and we took full advantage of their corona bucket deal. We had such a great experience we went back again that same night for pitchers of sangria and mojitos. All the tables were extremely spaced out, staff was on top of all covid protocols, we felt extremely safe and comfortable the entire time. I will 100% be visiting again and I highly highly recommend you to go check it out for yourself! 10/10
If you are going here for Sunday buckets, it’s a classic but that’s about it. I’ve been here a few times and every single time someone or their food has been pooped on by seagulls which isn’t really their fault and they are great about it but worth knowing. Also their food is expensive and average, I wish I took a picture of it but my friend got the fish and chips and they were no bigger than 5”x1” and looked dry and burned. It didn’t even look battered and fried but thrown on a flattop to overcook. That cost him over 20$. Cool vibe but not my favourite place
Love the rooftop!! And this chicken sandwich on the menu is the best thing in Victoria!! Prepare yourself to be a little messy!! But it is so worth it to lick your fingers and feel at home lol Of course, who can resist cheaper drinks and great food with a view!!
I guess it’s all about location? Ordered a burger with cheese. Asked if it was fresh. Server said yes. Tasted like a back yard bbq where the host cooks the burger all day. They should name it the desert burger. It tastes like burnt sand. Fries where wedges. Pretty sure the seasoning was mouldy, dried parsley with no salt. Skip this place if you like good food
Really nice and good The server she was slightly distracted
Shelynne was great sorry if I spelt that wrong . The patio in the sun on there sand side was great. Burger was great. But happy hour is a joke.. 8$ for wings under “happy” hour, you get 3 measly wings for 8$... drinks however on happy hour were great 5$ Will be back for drinks but not happy hour food.
I am posting this review because I was not even able to access the rooftop due to the staff’s uncompromising and insensitive attitude towards my situation with proofs of identification. On July 9th around 6:30pm, my friend and I entered and were, of course, asked for our IDs. When the two hostesses saw my interim driver’s license and BC services card from ICBC accompanied by my student card, their first response was that they could not let me on since I had no physical ID with both the photo and date of birth on it. They barely even looked at the papers; this confused me since I have not experienced this issue with other bars or the liquor store. When I expressed my confusion, they called over a man who seemed to be the bartender. He told me that everything I was showing to them could have easily been edited and that all of the information, including the signature, could have been faked, so they were obligated to treat me as a minor and not let me enter. My major concern here was not that they did not let me enter the rooftop - it was that, despite my effort to prove my identity, their immediate and persistent assumption was that I was trying to fake it to get into their bar for a drink. This was quite an unprofessional way of handling the issue that made me feel unwelcome.
I will gladly sing the praises of pretty much every establishment located in and around the Strathcona in Victoria, but I don't think there's a better bar on the island to be in the summer months than the rooftop. There's very much a choose-your-own-adventure approach in terms of relaxing drinks, beach volleyball, shots at the bar... you name it. If you're not careful you'll spend the entire day here, which really isn't that bad of a worst case scenario.
