Teatro Ristorante

The restaurant had a great atmosphere. Has an open kitchen to see their chef preparing your meal. Thank you to Head Chef, Dave Bohati for preparing our 11 course meal. Every dish was delicious and had a unique presentation. 👍

This is officially my favorite dinner restaurant in Calgary. I loved everything about my experience the other day. Service was fantastic. Hostess was friendly and offered to store my coat and gym bag. They even provided me a stool just for my purse! Waitress was knowledgeable and attentive. Really impressive wine selection, and everything on the menu looked good making it really hard to order. I like the open concept kitchen where you can watch the chef's cook, surprisingly it wasn't too loud. The bread they serve with dinner is so good I even asked for seconds even though I never do that. Good for couples and groups

Good food and nice atmosphere. Our waiter was reasonable but wore his apron and pants so low that you could see his belly - not exactly appetizing.

Food and Service is fantastic. This restaurant is in a beautiful old building that used to be a bank.

Management invited us back for a meal on them, we did not accept, Teatro was so bad it's not even worth going to when it's free, that explains everything I'm about to say about this establishment!. Teatro is a relic from the days when Calgary had more money than taste! Calgary has changed and Teatro should too! Currently Teatro’s food is not interesting, it's not skillfully prepared, it's not classic or decadent, it's not even good, the only thing Teatro had to offer was fairly pretty looking food in a beautiful room, and it's just not enough to impress people anymore! I don't remember now because we went around march but we had a 5 or 6 course meal and there was not one dish that stood out. The soup was the sort of thing you would expect at a hospital food court and everything else was bland and haphazard. Even with my slightly below cooking skills there was not a single dish in the entire meal that I did not feel completely confident I could make myself, at home, on a weeknight, with a recipe off the internet. Normally one of my favorite parts of doing tasting menus are the wine pairings unfortunately what was served at Teatro wasn't so much a wine pairing as a different random glass of wine at every course.  Without a doubt the worst wine pairing I have ever had anywhere ever! To say that it was a lazy and careless arrangement is a gross understatement! The service here was the worst part of the experience! Bad food and wine is disappointing but at least it doesn't make you go home, shed a few tears into your pillow and make you never want to go anywhere nice ever again!! Truly more than a waste of time and money this meal was a big hit to my self esteem! The server didn't yell or scream or anything like that instead we were treated so lowly that she did everything in her power to pretend like we did not exist! She wouldn't even look at us, forget eye contact she wouldn't even look at our table just gazed up at the ceiling as if speaking to or looking at us might contaminate her in some way. No I'm not joking! She would look away and not speak to us at all, it was just,  food slapped down and walk away, wine poured, walk away, literally no a word , she could not get away from us fast enough, this continued for an entire 5 or 6 course meal(sorry don't remember went in March-ish) At one point she came over, put a fresh wine glass on the table for the next course, then poured a full glass of wine into the dirty wine glass right beside the clean glass she had just put down, that's right, she was so determined to not so much as glance at us or our table that she couldn't even see what she was doing, had no idea which glass she was pouring into and totally ignored us trying to alert her to which glass she was using. It really was like we were so unworthy of her that she though just glancing at us would be unbearable for her. She deserves an honorary PhD in making people feel worthless, I’ve never experienced anything like it! Despite all of this, the worst part about the service was I couldn't even tell myself or my date "oh she's probably just having a bad day" or "let's not worry about it, for all we know her dog is sick" or anything like that because she was a total super star with the table about two feet away from ours! She was great, so attentive, lots of smiling and chatting the total opposite of the drop and run approach she took with us. This might all sound really trivial written in a review but it really got to us to have a person who wouldn't even look at us over the course of a 2+ hour meal and then to see them be so wonderful to the table beside us the entire time, it just really made us feel less than nothing to not even be worth looking at!
