Story

Located at the Straits of Mackinac where Lake Michigan and Lake Huron converge, the St. Ignace / Mackinac Island KOA provides a terrific north-woods base camp. This waterfront town is the gateway to Michigan's Upper Peninsula, a swath of pristine forest and jeweled lakes. Take advantage of KOA's free lift to the ferry that takes you to gracious Mackinac Island, where bicycles and horse and buggies are the only forms of transportation. Families love the area's beaches, lighthouse tours and state historic parks, complete with 18th-century forts and costumed interpreters.

Campground is getting rundown, however it is under new ownership so hopefully there will be improvements soon. Always have a great time while here regardless

Not bad. Old and aged. Needs more work. Owner is making changes. Tough making a living in the Upper Peninsula.

My husband and I stay at this KOA often and we have always been pleased with our accommodations. We stay in the rustic cabins and have always had a good experience until our stay this past weekend. When we arrived we were assigned cabin #5. It is in the back and the location is nice. However, there was a tarp covering the roof, the floor had not been swept, there was no light bulb on the front porch, the light bulb on the inside was yellow (which produced very little light) and there was no trash bag for the dirty trash can in the cabin. There were several times I thought about informing the staff about the concerns, but I also was trying to be understanding that the campground is under new management and there are bound to be issues that need to be worked out. So, I opted to overlook these issues and hope for improvement next time we camped there. That was until I received a phone call from the campground this morning regarding "missing items" from the cabin! Needless to say I was not happy to receive the phone call, especially since I gave them the benefit of the doubt this weekend. Once I listed all of the concerns I had and informed the staff that the light bulb had been missing, she apologized for wasting my time. To be safe I would report any issue, so it doesn't came back on you.

I see some of the complaints but I also see positives about this place, and some of the complaints don't make sense. We're in site #1. We have to share our power post with site #2. We needed to borrow an extension, 30 amp, to reach. The staff was happy to provide it but it seems to hassle site #2 more than us, it goes through their yard. Yes when it rains I can see mud and it's sticky gooey mud. The fire ring is quite large 2.5 feet, typical. The store closes at 2000 hrs, (9pm) and yes so does the laundry mat, there is a sign in the laundry mat which states do not start laundry after 8pm (2000 hrs). The staff is polite and you can joke around with them. We came in super early and they set us right up. Over all its ok, $36 Per Day for full hook ups, not bad.
