Straits State Park

The staff here are typical government robots. We're here the first day the bathrooms are supposed to be opened but they will not open them until 3 p.m. because that's check-in time. But we are already on our site. It would not cost the state one penny to open a couple hours early but they won't do it. That's our government for you. They don't need to worry about customer service because they don't need to worry about making a profit.

My wife and I did not overnight nor did we camp here at The Straits State Park, in Saint Ignace. We drove through the park and viewed the Mackinac Bridge. The park was very well maintained and many people were enjoying the facilities. The views of the bridge were very nice. I guess that our Alaska license plates enabled us to get a complementary, albeit very brief, visit to the park.

Love this place! We had a campsite with a view of the Mackinac bridge. They had nice facilities with showers and bathrooms. It's only about a mile from St. Ignace where they have a ferry to the Mackinac island. They have firewood on site. Campsites are a nice size. Only complaint, is there isn't much of a sandy beach on this coastline. It's close to the Mystery Spot and Castle Rock and other nice places. It isn't far if you want to travel to Mackinac city, Soo Ste Marie, and, Tequamenon falls

Extremely frustrated with this park. Went May 5th and the bathrooms and showers were all still unopened. We were NOT made aware of this before coming and this was one of the only reasons we stayed here as we were on a roadtrip from Minnesota and just passing through for a sleep and a shower. We paid $40 to sleep on their land when we could have slept in a Walmart parking lot for free. Never staying here again and will never recommend it to anyone.

I have mixed feelings about this park. I've had great experiences and some not so great. My family and I have been coming here for years (I believe maybe four or five years). Campsites are not private, but some have great views and the cramped quarters are worth it. Fire rings are well maintained as well as the bathrooms and shower facilities. Staff are okay, some are very friendly and others are not (which is the case for any business). Dogs are allowed, alcohol is allowed, and quiet time usually starts around 11pm. Prices are fair, although calling to make reservations is a better bet than using online. The website doesn't always work properly. Do your research, better safe than sorry.
