Unfortunately, the bad reviews are accurate. We needed a quick place to eat with the family and decided to try the buffet. Big mistake. We were there before six and there was literally no food in the buffet. The kitchen was busy making meals for their takeout customers, but completely ignoring the paid dining customers. There was one fish dish, some rice, and some noodles, and a whole lot of empty serving dishes. No wonton soup, no eggrolls, no shrimp, no beef, no chicken, you get the picture… Our super overworked server felt bad and was able to negotiate 10% off, but I think that in a time where labour is in shortage, we should let bad businesses die. I never expect much from a Chinese buffet, but at least I expect that there will be food. Really don’t go here.
One of those interesting “hole-in-the-wall” type of places. Blink and you’ll miss it when driving by, but once you’re in the mall parkade - access is super easy with great covered parking options. Service was very friendly, although a bit on the slower side. My table was happy to chat and hang out though, as the servers were good about stocking us up on drinks and everything else, in between them bringing out our dishes and also handling all the delivery orders that steadily came in. I’m mostly writing this review because of their pork and prawns though. The pork was SO tender, came in big, meaty chunks, with a yummy sauce that wasn’t goopy or syrupy. It’s been a loooong time since I’ve ordered sweet and sour pork, and then NOT seen any pieces that were just empty breading doused in gelatinous sauce. The quality was really surprising for both the portions and the prices. The prawns were also huge, so fresh, and very flavourful. Perfectly cooked, and hefty portions of these were also served. Same with the vegetables. All fresh, colourful, flavourful and not under/over cooked. The value is definitely solid on their combos as well as the entrée dishes. Was really nice to not feel skimped out on, and be satisfied with every dish we tried. All-in-all, we spent about $20-25 a person, went home totally stuffed, and each had takeout boxes for leftovers too! Thanks for a great girls night out, Purple Garden!
Terrible Food! Terrible Customer Service. I have ordered from this restaurant before and has been ok. This last time however the food was awful. Chicken Chow Mein had just 6 small pieces of chicken and very flavourless noodles. Chop Suey was around 98% large chopped cabbage. Dry garlic pork came in a metal container with about 12 pieces of soggy breaded pork completely covered in cooked onions???Spring Rolls were literally dripping grease. Even the bag they came in was wet with grease. Sweet and Sour pork was overwhelmed with vinegar. Almond Chicken had a speck of almond dust. No almonds. No sauce. Ginger beef, egg foo yung and fried rice were the best of everything. We also received one fortune cookie for 6 people. I called the restaurant twice. They apologized and told me the store owner/ manager would call me back. Never happened. I would have loved the opportunity to discuss this in person. I am sorry to say that I spent over $121.00 on this dinner. Just a warning for all. Don't waste your money here. Eat somewhere else. I know I will not order from here again. Nor will my guests that I had over for this dinner. Hope this helps others.
There was hardly any food out when we arrived at 5 and most of what was there was cold. I was very sick that night and will not go back especially with it being nearly $50 for 2 people. If the food had been good and hot $50 is not a problem
Some of the worst "Chinese food", I've ever had in my entire life! Soggy, disgustingly greasy breaded almond chicken, blech! The house fried rice just sucked and was extremely lacking in ingredients. The chicken chow mein was the worst of all, absolutely horrible, very greasy, tasteless gloop. The chicken in all the dishes was sliced so thin it was transparent. DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS DUMP! Also, the über driver was lazy & rude, and the food was Luke warm. Total waste of money and also very difficult to digest.
We went for the all you can eat buffet on a Saturday. Food was tasty, the turnover at the buffet table was fast and everything was freshly made. Highly recommend.Recommended dishesGinger Fried Beef, Dry Garlic Pork, Wonton Soup Egg Roll Fried Rice Dumplings Salt and Pepper Squid, Hot and Sour Soup, Sweet and Sour Pork
Terrible establishment.... What we ordered was much less than desired. I called to question the quality of the dishes we ordered and I was scalded by the person who told me that the dishes were served as they made. The #3 Deep fried wonton is simply a wonton wrap ... deep fried. The breaded Almond chicken #35 is a gross proportion if deep fried batter with a tiny chicken bit within. When we called to express our distain, the person on the phone was very argumentative and offered me an $8 credit towards my next purchase. DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS ESTABLISHMENT
Really, really bad. It's so bad in everyway that it's almost funny. Dirty, hilariously awful decor, horrendous food. It's cheap atleast, but somehow not cheap enough. Left feeling sick from the food, and curious as to how they are still in business. It's a mystery.
I lay in agony as I type this. Absolutely the worst food ever. Place was dirty and beyond outdated. Tables left with dirty dishes. The food was abysmal and just about inedible. Not worth the cheap prices you'll end up paying for it in the end.
If you love food the way I do, you will love the fried rice Purple Garden has to offer. Top rated fried rice has what is called "Wok-hey" or "Guo-qi" which a nutty barbecue flavor of the rice is brought out from the high heat of the wok. This skill is becoming hard to find these days, even in Vancouver. Thanks to the chef here who must care about the quality of his cooking, bravo! I usually go there and order their fried rice and fried noodles dishes. If eating from their buffet, they have the best chicken wings in town!
