Pho with Us

I didn’t know where to set my expectations for Pho with Us, but I was pretty impressed with the food here! I had the Tofu & Veggie Rolls with Dry Noodles and a Tofu Pudding w/ Ginger Syrup. The noodle dish vermicelli was totally delicious, especially the veggie spring rolls! Even though the tofu and spring rolls were deep-fried, the dish didn’t have an oily taste. I saved one of the spring rolls for later and was still very full - I could have gotten two light but complete meals out of this if I hadn’t gotten excited and eaten so fast to start out with. The tofu pudding was okay, kind of bland. I haven’t had a dessert like this from a Vietnamese restaurant before so I don’t know how it usually should be. I appreciated that the ginger syrup wasn’t too sweet but I would have liked the ginger to be stronger. This was also a large portion so I took half home. Like other restaurants in University Marketplace, the environment is rather cafeteria-like, meaning not much ambiance to speak of, but the people who run it are nice and hard-working. Considering it’s campus eats, it checks all the boxes: tasty, great value, and quick. And it’s great to have a Vietnamese restaurant at UBC now.

I’m so glad they opened a pho place at UBC! This is perfect for those cold days on campus. The portions are big and it’s a fair price given the inflation. My sandwich was a little over $7 and had plenty of filling. The spring rolls were larger than expected and I was still able to take one roll home. No issues with seating when we arrived on a weekday at around 12:15pm. Really enjoyed it here and will return to try pho. They take card. Paid parking at the front or free parking along the road after 6pm. Overall, I recommend coming here if you’re craving some pho or hang-over food when your in the area.

Order on uber and have steel wire in food. I tried to communicate with the restaurant by Uber but didn’t get any response for the incident.

Horrible service and overpriced food. Came here for lunch and ordered at the counter as no one showed us to a table. After ordering, we sat down and waited for water but they came and just gave us our food in a to go bag? I don’t know why they just assumed. The food is pretty terrible too. Ordered the coffee with condensed milk and it tasted like a powder mix - overly sweet and had frothy bits at the top. What a scam for almost 6 dollars. The pho special was even worse. There was probably 4 slices of beef and 2 beef balls cut up in there, the rest was just noodles and onions. Such a joke for an 18 dollar pho. Also ordered lemongrass chicken which was probably worse. The chicken was probably overnight chicken? Otherwise I can’t imagine why it’s so rubbery and cold. All in all just a terrible experience. Would not recommend anyone here. Walk/bus down to W 10th for proper pho instead. 50 bucks for this meal - what a scam.

Big portion sizes! Though I will say the Pho is on the pricier side. The Banh Mi taste great.Food: 3/5

Final update: They’ve made a lot of improvements since opening! The portions are large with lots of noodles, and if you ask they will provide a plate of bean sprouts and a wedge of lemon. The soup is also really flavourful without being too bland or salty. There’s also a decent amount of meat. Would recommend! Update: I came back after 2 months and had a better experience. Fast customer service. Pros: The pho is overall pretty good and there is a lot of meat included if you get the special. The portion of noodles is also much bigger now. Cons: They don’t provide a plate of bean sprouts and a wedge of lemon like at other places. The soup used to be bland, but I think they overcorrected and made it too salty now instead. It’s okay if you’re just eating the noodles, but if you like to drink the soup it is very salty. Original review: I was excited that this restaurant opened since pho is one of my favourite foods, but I was disappointed by my experience. A bowl of pho here costs $16.50, which is on the pricier side. I would be okay with it if it was good, but it wasn’t. It was very bland and basic, and the portion of noodles was smaller than at other places.

I have read other ratings. You should compare Apple with Apple. This is a campus restaurant, meaning you need speed in service and proper portion it should price right. The moment we sat we were served with drink. I would say less than a minute. Then as soon as we order we got served with less than 5 minutes. It was fresh and testy. I had lots left over. I think it’s not fast food but faster than McDonald’s. Why would I care if it’s not the fanciest restaurant. Bathroom was clean too. In rainy day it will hit the spot! I love this place. Besides the fact It’s close to work and home, which desperately needed a good pho resto, the lemongrass chicken in the N6 bowl is excellent and super yummy — this is my default go to that is a big portion and contains everything. If you don’t want something that large, go for one of the pho noodle soups, which are all delicious. Service is fast, prices are very reasonable. I go back here often, many times with work colleagues. It gets very busy around lunch and dinner times though, luckily we always got a table. Awesome simple pho place that’s become a regular spot on campus.

I love this place in the campus area. I was there about 9:30pm and they were still opened, so I ordered a noodles and found out it’s surprisingly delicious! With the great service and this good food, I’m gonna go back and try out other items in their menu for sure!
