Amazing food garlic chicken and it shows with the long wait people are willing to accept.nnUnfortunately, their strength is also a double edged sword.nThey don’t accept waitlisting ahead of time so you’re forced to go in person and wait 1 hour+.nnNot everyone can afford to wait in person for that long but if you can, just expect for it to take a while…nn—nnFood is amazing, waiting not so much…
Phnom Penh is a go to destination for locals and tourists. It blends Vietnamese and Cambodian dishes into delicious meals that’s served family style. We’ve never been disappointed going there. Our go to dishes are the famous wings, butter beef and luc lac with an egg. The moo shakes are great too. We’ve also had the papaya salad which is pretty tasty and refreshing too. The only issue with Phnom Penh is that they don’t do reservations and with it being so popular, you’re most likely going to have to wait. But it’s definitely worth it! There’s a bar down the street where you can wait things out.
Walking into Phnom Penh Restaurant is like stepping into one of Vancouver’s most beloved comfort food experiences. The flavour here is bold, straightforward, and deeply satisfying — it’s the kind of food that hits you right where you want it: rich, savoury, and unmistakably memorable.nnThe menu strikes a perfect balance between Cambodian and Vietnamese influences, and the dishes are generous without feeling sloppy. The grilled meats, noodles, and signature dishes consistently show up hot and full of character. It doesn’t rely on gimmicks; it’s just well-executed food that leaves a real impression.nnService matches the kitchen’s confidence — friendly, attentive, and unfazed by busy nights. Expect a lively atmosphere full of locals and regulars, which adds to the overall charm. If you’re craving hearty, flavourful food that feels like a genuine neighbourhood staple, Phnom Penh delivers in a way few places do.
PRO TIP: If you're planning on visiting during opening, I would be there 10/15 minutes before doors open- my family and I came right at 11 and there was already a line. We ended up having to wait 1.45 hours. If possible, I would make a reservation the day before.nnWe ordered the following:nBeef Luc LacnMarinated Beef ButternChicken WingsnCanh Chua TomnnI feel like everyone has talked about the marinated beef butter and the chicken wings and they’re definitely a must! The sauce and onion/garlic topping for the beef butter pairs very well with meat. This dish also comes with a clear pork-based broth with a chunk of meat. As for the chicken wings, my family and I loved them. The batter is definitely on the lighter side and is fried to perfection. They are already seasoned with simple salt and pepper and if you want a citrusy kick, there’s some lemon/pepper sauce on the side. The chicken wing was fresh, crispy, savory, and moist.nnAs for the other dishes, we thoroughly enjoyed the beef luc lac! The dish is sweet/savory and went perfectly with the egg on top. Although everything we ordered was fantastic, my personal favorite besides the wings was the canh chua tom! This was perfect for the cold weather. The soup was nice and sour with so many delicious veggies and shrimp.nnEven though it was super busy, the staff members were all very attentive and friendly! And the food was ready within 15 minutes of ordering.nnDelicious food, lovely staff/service, what more could you ask for? This place lives up to the hype!
I got there before 11 am. There was a short line up already before the restaurant opened. I ordered small chicken wings, beef noodles and lemongrass short ribs. The food was good. I liked the complimentary soup bone. Chicken wings tasted on a bit salty side I ate it with rice. The service was great. There were a lot of servers helping you clearing your dishes, that was a plus.
