When an eatery is top rated by both locals and tourists alike, something surely went right. Phenom Penh more than lives up to its hype and more than justifies any wait time at the front for your seat at the table.nnBy our conclusion, what these guys do right is that their menu selection contain a good mix of both 1 comfort and 2 novelty. For those who eat Cambodian/Vietnamese food often, the flavours here evoke a sense of nostalgia because the flavours are authentic and the chefs are faithful to their recipes. For the locals who revisit frequently, they could always depend on the consistency of the food they order here – meal in, meal out.nnFor the curious newbie to this cuisine, there are enough on the menu that will be unlike anything you have eaten before. So much so that a meal here makes a pretty decent impression of a trip to South East Asia. Their Marinated Butter Beef is a prime example of this. The combination of raw meat and the sharp tangy freshness of the vinegar dressing and cilantro both shocks and titillates the senses. How about the Pan Fried Lotus Stems? The crunchy yet slippery stalks of lotus does a good job as a palate cleanser between the other heavier dishes, yet the texture of this vegetable will often be a new discovery for diners from many cultural backgrounds.nnCome dine here and discover what everyone has been raving about. It is an accomplished and proud staple on the Vancouver food scene and deserves all its plaudits.
We waited for 1 hour and 40 minutes to get a table at this highly acclaimed restaurant, drawn in by its numerous awards and even a Michelin plaque. While the ambiance and presentation were impressive, the food itself didn’t quite live up to the hype. The flavors were good but nothing extraordinary—just your typical Vietnamese restaurant quality. It’s worth a visit for the experience, but manage your expectations if you’re coming for something truly unique.
Amazing experience at this Cambodian restaurant! Although we had to wait for 30 minutes, it was worth it. We tried their famous fried chicken, and it was absolutely delicious—crispy and full of flavour. We also ordered the dry noodles, beef rice with egg, and fried lotus root. Every dish was packed with authentic flavours and cooked to perfection. Highly recommend this place for anyone craving a taste of Cambodia!
December 2024nnGreat chicken wings indeed. Other than that, big noodle soup portions with valuable price. Long wait for many due to rave reviews. Flavorful for in this part of the world. Marinated butter beef is a pretty different option. Hot soup on a cool day always bring comfort.nnMy rating as 5 is very satisfiednnTaste 4/5nTemperature 4/5nAttentive and courteous 4/5 not easy to serve with a great hospitality with busy traffic.nCleanliness 3/5.nnWill I recommend? 3/5 not a gold standard if you tried some better one.nWill I revisit? Undecided.
This place is a MUST when we’re in the area from Seattle but plan on there likely being a wait to be seated if coming on a weekend or holiday, but they will text u when ready which is convenient.nnThe chicken wings are an absolute must. Get the large. I regretted getting the small last time I was there. So light and crispy, and the lime sauce it comes with is the perfect compliment. Phnom Penh beef noodle soup and pea tips are also very delicious. Fast and efficient service, clean, quality.nI’ve been coming here from Seattle since I was a kid over 30 years, and it’s always been a hit in the Cambodian Chinese community and beyond.
