Tried Phnom Penh for the first time and overall it was a good experience, but probably a one-time visit for me.nnWe ordered the marinated butter beef, chicken wings, and beef luc lac. The butter beef was definitely the highlight. The beef was super soft and tender, not chewy at all, and the garlic flavour was really nice. That said, the soy sauce felt a bit too overpowering for my taste.nnThe chicken wings were also very good. The batter was crispy and flavourful, no complaints there. Honestly though, not as mind-blowing as the hype makes them out to be.nnThe beef luc lac was underwhelming in my opinion. The flavours were very basic, and the salad that came with it did not add much either.nnService, vibe, and overall experience were solid and enjoyable. However, the pricing felt a bit high for food that was just above average. There are plenty of other spots in Vancouver offering better flavours at lower prices. Glad I tried it, but not somewhere I would rush back to, given the prices and long wait time.
Phnom Penh is a go to destination for locals and tourists. It blends Vietnamese and Cambodian dishes into delicious meals that’s served family style. We’ve never been disappointed going there. Our go to dishes are the famous wings, butter beef and luc lac with an egg. The moo shakes are great too. We’ve also had the papaya salad which is pretty tasty and refreshing too. The only issue with Phnom Penh is that they don’t do reservations and with it being so popular, you’re most likely going to have to wait. But it’s definitely worth it! There’s a bar down the street where you can wait things out.
Phnom Penh in Chinatown is always lively and usually has a wait, which adds to the energy. The space is bright with typical Vietnamese restaurant lighting and it can get noisy, but you can still chat comfortably. The dining area is pretty clean, though the restrooms could be better.nnWe came with a group of six and tried a lot of dishes. The Bot Chien, Canh Chua Tôm, and Cánh gà lan bột were standouts. The butter beef and clams were solid. Some dishes were misses for us, like the dry Cambodian noodles and the bò lúc lắc. Portions are generous and most dishes are full of flavor.nnService felt rushed and a bit disconnected, especially toward the end of dinner, and our server struggled with the Vietnamese dish names, so ordering by number was easier.nnOverall, some dishes are excellent while others could use improvement. It does feel a bit overhyped, but if you want Vietnamese and Cambodian comfort food and haven’t been yet, it’s still worth trying.
Happy I got to finally try this place because everyone has been raving about it. We were a group of 3 & didn’t have a reservation so it ended up being about an hour wait to get a table which we expected since it’s very popular. Killed time by walking around the neighbourhood & eating some snacks. Food was great! We ordered marinated butter beef, beef luc lac, and the fried chicken wings. Would come back again! Would probably try to get a reservation next time, especially if we come with a bigger group.
I got there before 11 am. There was a short line up already before the restaurant opened. I ordered small chicken wings, beef noodles and lemongrass short ribs. The food was good. I liked the complimentary soup bone. Chicken wings tasted on a bit salty side I ate it with rice. The service was great. There were a lot of servers helping you clearing your dishes, that was a plus.
