This place was quite lively and we had to even line up to get in even before opening time for lunch. The food was quite good, the black pepper squid was excellent and the chicken wings were perfectly deep fried. The marinated beef had a relatively unique flavor to me and was quite refreshing. Unfortunately the durian moo shake wasn’t for me - mostly because i was unaccustomed to the taste. The coconut seafood curry was so-so. Overall the food was very solid and inexpensive and the service was good as well.
We were told about this much hyped Vietnamese restaurant in the heart of Chinatown by our friend, none of us had ever been so we were pretty excited to go for lunch.nAlready very busy at noon on a Monday the wait time was 1 hr for a table.nThey take a cell # and text when one is available.nnHaving already made our selections from the take-out menu, we ordered as soon as seated. The speed of the food arriving to the table more than makes up for the wait time.nnEverything was perfectly prepared and delicious, living up to the hype.nOf course we ordered the chicken wings, that if you walk by the tables almost everyone orders and even though I’m not a fan of anything raw, the Marinated Butter Beef was excellent and tasty.nHighly recommend these items.nnService is excellent.nCredit cards accepted.nMetered street parking.
Super busy and packed place with an extensive wait time! Be prepared to wait more than an hour, but it’s so worth it. Like everyone had said about the wings; they are out of this world. Words cannot describe the flavor they have, the dry seasoning rub that comes on them makes your tongue dance the minute it comes in contact. Crunchy umami exterior, with a nice juicy tender interior. We also got the beef stew with rice noodles. Big chunks of stewed beef that melts in the mouth accompanied with buttery cartilage, seasoned very well!
A Bib Gourmand and an early line are fine indicators of quality, but hype can be a dangerous thing for the hungry traveler. Fortunately, this place is all that - we stuck to the classic butter beef and wings, both characterized by perfect flavour balance, with an emphasis on sweetness to cut through the herbs and salt respectively. I assume the butter beef gets its name from the texture, as this is totally addicting and some of the smoothest meat I’ve slurped down. The wings were my ideal dry rub - perfectly fried and dipping sauce that I cannot get enough of. Topped off with a sweet and strong Viet coffee, I’m already dreaming of my next visit.
Our dining experience was very enjoyable, though I'm uncertain if it justifies the wait. Nevertheless, I would recommend this restaurant. We arrived at 10:55 AM, just before the 11 AM opening, and found a long line already formed. Unfortunately, we weren't seated with the first wave of customers. Thankfully, the restaurant took our phone number and contacted us about 45 minutes later when our table was ready.nnThe food was good and reasonably priced. The butter beef was tender and delicious, a definite highlight of the meal. However, the pho was average and didn’t stand out as anything special.nnThe garlic squid, on the other hand, was exceptional. Comparable to gourmet garlic calamari, it’s a dish worth returning for.nnIn summary, if there is no wait, I would wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant. However, if you find yourself faced with a long wait, there are other dining options to consider.
