I have better things to do than write bad reviews, it’s taken me several bad experiences at this store to finally write one. There are some decent employees here but I have to believe it’s because they are raised well, not because the store provides any customer service training, or cares at all about customer service. Most are rude, with an attitude and they enforce rules they don’t even know properly. Rules in credit card transactions change depending who’s around and they have zero diplomacy to even convey them to the customer.nOn a Saturday evening they have one cashier, one “supervisor”, one checking the automated station. All kids, not one adult insight, no manager. I don’t even go that often but 4 out of 5 visits I have a bad experience. NEVER AGAIN. There’s IGA and SuperC one block away , it’s very surprising the owners don’t pay more attention to their employees’ training given the nearby competition.
If I could give a zero I would. I have been shopping at this Metro for over 10 years, the employees used to be very professional, friendly, and nice, especially during Covid. Unfortunately, it seems like there are new employees and managers. I just had the worst experience in a grocery store in my life. I asked for a rain check and specified I wanted 3 items on the rain check. The cashier, along with her ''supervisor'' decided to mark 2 items. They did not tell me anything. When I got home, I looked at the rain check and noticed the difference. So, I called Metro. The ''supervisor'' answered the phone and wouldn't listen to me and called me an idiot, then hung up the phone on me. I went to the store to make a complaint to a manager, the ''supervisor'' said she was the manager. I was shocked! I asked for her name, she refused to give it to me. We had a heated conversation because she was rude and said we don't share the same values. When I asked what those values are, she wouldn't answer. I really don't think I'm ever going back to that Metro. The sad thing is it's around the corner from where I live.
The management/ownership team of this grocery store clearly has made a decision to put profits ahead of service and customer experience. No carts, no cashes open, empty shelves.... it's not normal. They've lost me, a loyal customer that's been going there for years, to their competition that still puts an emphasis on customer service.
I have been grocery shopping there since it opened. I was willing to pay a bit more for the choice, the service, etc. In the last few months there was a drastic change. Often I get there and there is no carts inside. And I have to bag my groceries myself almost all the time and this is if I am lucky and there is a cashier opened… I found myself a few times with groceries over 200$ at the self checkout. This works when you have a few items not a full cart. The system blocks all the time and it takes forever. And all of that while prices continue to increase. I will have to change grocery store…
I goes to show the owner makes all the difference. Owner changed a few months ago and it’s been a sharp decline ever since, items frequently stocked out and store in a general state of chaos/disarray. As others mentioned Metro is known to be more expensive, but my perspective is you get what you pay for. If I am going to get a discount experience, I will go elsewhere. I encourage the mgmt team to walk around and maybe just listen to what customers are saying amongst themselves or conveying to long time trusted employees. I suspect operating cost have decreased and the true sales decrease is likely not too visible yet due to the ever increasing costs of food.
