I’ve been a customer many years so this recent discovery was disappointing. Had my bike maintenance/repairs done around two years ago…the price was around $250. I trust these guys and assume they know how to fix bikes properly. Fast forward to July 2022…the bike has been sitting in storage and the tires were both flat. I called Velofix mobile to fix and they pumped up tires, put chain back on and left. I didn’t ride the bike day it was repaired and there were no issues the next day. The third day, the back tire was flat. I took it to Caps Cycle in Richmond and according to the tech, it was incorrect tube that was installed and for sure, a trained tech would know it was incorrect. We figured that the tube was likely twisted which explains why it leaked out slowly and why I had a day of riding before it was flat. What if I had been out in the middle of nowhere? I will never go to Mactalla or hire Velofix again. Just plain, gross incompetence.
Hard to rate. I know they are an independent business trying hard. It looked like a cool shop and the guys were nice and it looked like the team would be knowledgeable. I came at approximately 2pm on a Saturday ride through the city. My rear derailleur cable had snapped and I was stuck in the hardest gear. I asked if they could fix it and the guy couldn't get past his usual script. ” We usually take a few days to look over your bike and then phone with a quote and list of required repairs. ” I told him I'm stuck in the middle of a ride and need a repair now. He gave me the same line again. Left me hanging . I walked and rolled down to a Commercial Drive bike shop and they took it in right away and 20m later I was on my way. In my opinion, if a client comes in with an urgent issue that's an easy fix you should try a little harder to help them out. It's hard for me to recommend after this.
When I brought my brand new, Rad expand 5 e-bike, to Mactalla for an adjustment of the steering column, I got the best service! I have complete confidence in this business, excellent, courteous, above and beyond the call of duty! Thank you everyone, for starting me off right
I'm super grateful for the time and patience of the owner / staff to explain how to service my own bike. A few months ago, they talked me though how to convert my tires to tubeless. After a detailed explanation I went home and converted my tires in about 30 mins. Recently, I got another crash course on servicing/bleeding my brakes. Thank you for sharing your wisdom! Love supporting this local shop!
Solid Bike shop. Super helpful to have in the neighbourhood. Can you find cheaper products or service else where? Sure, but will those other guys be close to home when you need a repair in a pinch? I think not. Keep it up Mactalla, and thanks again for the fender today!
I have never been disappointed here. Whether we’ve brought them old beaters, our kids bikes, or a jazzy new ebike, these guys have been totally fair with pricing and knowledgeable. They’re passionate about bikes and you can tell.
Mactalla did high quality job with my bikes tune up and repairs. They were able to complete the work much quicker than I expected being a busy time of year. I would however think that if a customer were paying for a tuneup package, labour charges for part replacements should not be billed if the item did not incur additional work for the mechanic. An example of this is the $200 tune package includes chain removal and clean although I was still charged additional labour for a chain replacement. I would likely go back for individual repairs as needed as their workmanship as great. Edit: I had tried to give a fair and constructive review but your response comes across as trying to fool someone who does not know any better in order to upcharge. Chain sizing and cutting would have been an extra 30 seconds of work and should not have resulted in an additional half hour labour charge. Any reasonable bike shop would have this service included in the package. My opinion has changed of coming back for repairs due to the dishonest nature of how this business is operated.
Went to get flat fixed. Cashier was chatting with customer. I waited patiently. He paid very slowly with his card. Chatted some more. I was getting impatient. Finally he went to get his bike to wheel it out. I waited patiently for him to leave. On the way out he stopped to chat some more with the cashier about his prostate. Fed up, I left. Not great customer service. Never going back.
They built me a mtb rear wheel recently, they were able to turn it around quickly and get me back out on trails while other shops quoted weeks. They stand behind their work with a complimentary checkup on the new wheel build after a ride or two. Happy to give my business to a shop owned and operated in my neighbourhood.
Great warm friendly local vibe in there. Got a fantastic deal on gloves with warranty, and would definitely go back and recommend to anyone in the neighborhood. They really know their stuff!
