Food was phenomenal. I got the rib tips and sausage combo and they were juicy and tender. The tips had a nice crust on them. My wife was a little bummed because they were out of catfish, but she did like the perch. The fried okra was perfectly battered and crispy. I would have like some salt on the fries and okra but that is barely worth noting. If you are looking for good BBQ in the area, this is definitely one of the best places.
First time here, overall the experience was good. The meat was super tender, chicken and shrimp was seasoned but didn't care for the sauce or the fries.Food: 5/5
I FINALLY made it to Honey’s and ima run it back! Food was fast and fye! Tip n link combo was DELISH! The link was cut up and that threw me off but I quickly got over it, ya know? And u BETTER get the okra. It’s sooo good. Oh yea. How could I forget the chicken wings? They were good too. I have nothing bad to say about this place…seriously. do t forget to bring that good, old fashioned CASH!
Yeahhhhh they snapping up in there!! I ordered an extra large tip and link combo and a small potato salad which totaled about $27. That size tip feeds about 3-4 people. It was exceptional….DO YOU HEAR ME! I got sauce on the side. I hateeee bbq sauce but theirs is a sweet and spicy mix of deliciousness! The tips were tender and the links were lightly charred and delicious as well. I highly recommend them! Forget Alice’s!!! This place is fresh and fast!!!!!
1st weekend of June I was in Hyde Park for the legendary 57th Street Art Fair and since I was close by, dropped in, for my favorite Rib-Tip/Hot-Link> Sauce-on-the-side > Super-Crispy-Fries-please Combo! A customer was waiting to pick-up her order, when she asked me, “Was this place any good?” Well- I replied, “I’ve been goin’ since they were on The Far West Side, then up In Bucktownon The North Side and I’ve been faithfully comin’ down South for their HICKORY WOOD SMOKED Piggy” ….and before I could finish describing how much I liked Honey1- she finished my long sentence by saying- “Well- I guess they MUST BE good”, “ you’ve been following them all those years”! Yes-ma’am.
So I promised to try "Honey 1" again to see if my opinion changed. I went back today and decided to get another large tip but this time with sauce on the side. I wanted to see if it was the meat that was a bit salty or was it the sauce before? It's the meat itself. It was still nice cuts and tender but it's too much salt for my taste. I took my tips, rinse them and boiled them a little to try and remove some of the salt. The gentleman that waited on me was courteous and that was appreciated. So....I'm in search of a new rib joint but Honey 1 wish you the best.
Got the tip and link combo, which was impressive, the tips were cut thick and tender, sausage had good texture and flavor as well. The sauce was very good. Only disappointment were the French fries - two thumbs up!
We bought an XL Rib Tip and Hot Link Meal. It was $26, and it says it can feed 3-4 people, but that's not true and wasn't worth the price. The hot link was cut in pieces and mixed with the tips, which is very unusual, so we don't know how many links come in the dinner. My husband felt like it was only one link. Most places keep the links whole, so I'm not sure why they do that. The rib tips weren't tender so that ruined the meal. The cashier was nice but we definitely won't go back.
Major disappointment. I ordered large tips combo. I told the person The. tips were dry, rubbery and had obviously been microwaved. The French fries were definitely twice cook and included some inedible crunchy dregs from the french fry basket I requested cat fish steaks . They didn't have any. He told me they had perch fish. I said , okay , I'll try it. BIG MISTAKE. The fish fillets was hard as a poorly cooked week old biscuit. Some of the fish fillet was evenly brown and knock on wood hard. The rest of the fish was dark brown , just short appearing burnt Next and lastly I ordered five chicken wings. The fried wings, as was all the food I ordered, was slightly warm and tasteless. It was as if they hadn't heard of salt and pepper or any kind of seasoning. Wings cooked kibble and bits hard, not edible. My German shepherd would have sniffed the food, looked up at me and walked away. That's how bad the food was. I have eaten at Honey 1 when it was on the westside of Chicago , featured on WTTW Check Please show . And I followed this good when they relocated to north Western Ave. The food was really great , The service was upbeat accommodating and positive.. Western Avenue had a simple , pleasant done on atmosphere. Not so on 43rd street. I tried to engage the young man about his mom and dad , the founders of Honey 1. The founders were very engaging and effiencient, expliciting orders. This young man had to be called three times before he came to the window. He seemed miserable. I don't want misery to serve my food. When I placed my phone ordered , I specified NO SAUCE on anything. I told the order taker I wanted to experience the freshness and savory smoky taste of the BBQ TIPS. I trashed ALL MY FOOD. It was awful. The prices were not bad at all. But the food was horrible That's the plain truth . Quick observation If there is NO smoke no heat chancers are the BBQ Is microwaved retread meat. No excuse for day old fries. The smoker needed cleaning.
Today I bought a large order of tips cut thin. The meat is so tough I can't eat it. I called back I've only been home 10 mins and the young lady told me I had to wai until the owner is there tomorrow before anything can be done. It's not my first tome eating there but it is the first time that I was displeased.
