Absolutely excellent. Everything - the room, pool, gym, and dining area were very, very well maintained. Service was kind, cheerful and helpful. As an aside, we were at breakfast, and in all my years in hotels, I have NEVER seen a dining staff work so hard, so fast, and yet remain so friendly to guests during the buffet rush. This hotel was well worth being a little out of the way of the centre of Ottawa - I have to admit that I'd prefer to keep it a 'best kept secret', but they deserve the recognition. Well done!
I stayed at the Holiday Inn at 500 Brisebois Cres in Ottawa for a month, so I saw, heard, and witnessed some positive and a lot of negative about this Hotel. Many I can't mention as it probably will offend some people.nNegatives:nHousekeeping: Inexperienced, disorganized, slower than slow, and most spoke little to no English, so communicating was near impossible for me as I do not speak French or whatever other language they spoke. Most days the hallways are cluttered with numerous carts, numerous bags of garbage, numerous laundry bags, and many workers chatting it up or getting stuff off their cart all day long. It was quiet the dodging act, as my room was at the end of the hall.nSmoking area: Not enforced so anywhere one wants to smoke and that includes directly in front of or at the side of the front door, they do. Having to walk through the smoke coming and going out the front door was nasty and offensive.nThe smell that comes out of the bathroom tap in my room 302 when you turn it on, is gross. It smells like sewer.nThe peep holes do not accommodate short people.nFront Desk: Some of the staff are not very friendly, sometimes rude, not professional acting, unaccommodating and not personable. One of my examples is when I politely asked the girl at the front desk if the maintenance man was working and she said “no”. I replied with, “the garbage can out around the corner is full and the hornets are swarming like crazy and I am deadly allergic to them, so can someone please change the garbage bag?” She said, not today and not until the maintenance man can do it and for me to stay away from the garbage, rather than fix the problem. I repeated myself about the hornets for my sake and others as the can is located in a high traffic area on the grounds and educated her that at this time of year they attack big time. She again says that it cannot be changed, so I said, “I will do it myself”. After disposing the very full garbage bag into the dumpster I asked her for a replacement garbage bag to put in the can, was when another employee stepped in and acted like a professional. The lady who intervened said it was not my job to replace the bag so she did it and nor was it my job to change it but I had to protect myself and others because I was not getting any co-operation from the girl and nor was I going to wait out the long weekend for the maintenance guy to do it. The girl was in tears after I informed the lady who intervened that she was not compliant to my needs and runs off saying “I am phoning the manager”. Seriously????? She avoided me and gave me the stink eye during my final week and nor did she apologize for her behavior during something that was so simple to rectify.nMaintenance: I feel the hallways need to be vacuumed more often. I feel the outside garbage cans should be changed daily and not just when they are overflowing.nStaff and occupants allowing the doors to slam, rather than close them quietly was very disturbing.nWindows do not open for fresh air, so the room can get stale.nCheap toilet paper and Kleenex.nnPositives:nWonderful kitchen staff. They were friendly, personable, and very accommodating. Breakfast was really good. A couple of the front desk staff were wonderful and accommodating. You know who you are and thank you for your professionalism, understanding and being personable. My room was clean upon check-in. Soundproofing between rooms is exceptionally good. not so much for hallway activity
Stayed for a week while moving. The rooms are bit dated bit well appointed. The staff was fantastic during our stay and were very helpful to us as we had to extend our stay twice due delays moving into our new place. I was working remotely from the room and had no issues with the internet. Great location as well, lots of food options in walking distance.
In general it’s good place to stay in when you’re travelling. I stayed here for 3 nights. Clean rooms, good breakfast which is only egg, home fries, pancake. Staff were nice and friendly. Overall it was a good experience with them but based on everything the price is expensive around $200 per night
Best kitchen staff ever : the 2 women are smiling, helping us by explaining everything available, interacting with my kid and making him laugh even made a pancake for him. I would like to see more staff like this everywhere in 2024.nnThe food is really good and we had a lot of choice for breakfast more than other Hotel so far.nThe room is spacious, really clean, king bed is REALLY confortable.nHappy we took 2 nights at this Hotel. We will definitly come back at this hotel on our next visit.
