Fondway Cafe

Neat decor, and a very large selection of tea on the wall. The place seems a little disordered, I think some rearranging could go a long way, the menu items were limited during my visit, many of the items I was interested in trying were either discontinued or out of stock unfortunately. I ordered a turkey sandwich, with a salad as the soup was out, and a Condensed milk ice Coffee. The croissant was well done and had great flavour, fresh ingredients and a good variety, and thick cut of turkey, as opposed to some cafes basic Ham and Swiss deal. The salad was very simple with the dressing and had fresh ingredients as well, not to my taste but not bad! The drink was interesting and unique in a way I haven't experienced before the taste was less complex than the menu photo of it but still tasty. I wish I could've tried some of their baked goods, soup, and a pour over coffee but unfortunately it was all out.

A good place to study and eat. The drinks are awesome. They have snacks if you are not that hungry and a variety of desserts. It does get a little crowded though during lunch hours so I recommend to come in before or after those times.

I like the atmosphere but I wish they have more seats / stools. I won’t recommend this place if you are looking for a cafe for studying. I like the Matcha latte it is not too sweet and the cold noodles and rice dishes are tasty as well

Fondway is one of my go to cafes in the Metrotown area due to its nearness to the station, and the fact that there are almost always seats available! Free wifi, decent drink and food options. Quiet enough for a WFH or study day : The staff are always friendly as well!

My earl grey latte was a bit watered down for my taste and I normally take 30% sugar in my bbt for reference. The creme brulee was not smooth at all... tasted more like pudding, quite disappointed. There was no toilet paper in the washroom too, and they even wrote a sign for it... so all you could use was napkins.

Great place to study as it isn't usually very busy. Cute tables and decor as well. However, the outlets are inconvenient so if you do bring any electronics, ensure they are fully charged. I only ever order the passion fruit green tea here which is pretty good. A bit on the pricey side. From my experience, the staff is really nice and polite!

They have wifi and the food is super good. I would love to visit again.Food: 5/5

Nice presentation for drinks. Taste wise was average, nothing special. Disappointed that the place states that they are open until 10PM, but they closed at 9PM when I came to try this place out.

Edit/Update 2022: Having not been able to return during the pandemic, I anticipated this stop. It was a very distinctive place with friendly Taiwanese ladies running the shop. Their atmosphere was relaxing and welcoming. It had a quality and level of professionalism. NOT ANYMORE!!! This is not what it used to be. The cashier an Asian guy on the bigger side was not friendly he enjoyed gawking, had one leg up on the stool, etc. and expected us to order upon arrival. I informed him that I needed to look at the menu first and he seemed offended. A lady offered menus at this time. First, this is not customer service. If you don't like this job, don't do it. We are a society that enjoys good service and friendliness. If you only intend to make money, your products better live up to any arrogance. Next, the once elegant atmosphere has been smoked by elementary behaviour, but let's leave that point. The environment has been overrun by a cheap feel. The current tables and chairs replaced the retro seating, creative tables and other tastes it once owned. It's a bad combination of trying to maintain the former qualities by thrashing it with generic components of a Chinese cafe. I'm sure this place changed ownership and not for the better. Third, don't bother tipping if you come. They don't bring the orders to you. And even if they did, their service level severely under performs. During our stay, the cashier went to play on his phone on the nice long table. I really miss the previous owners and what they did to create the former cafe. So, try it at your own risk. If you're interested in coffee and/or desserts, I recommend trying Camellia, Ki Tea, CuppaJoe or Coffizen. If you just want a nice environment and don't care about good coffee or can pay for more costly desserts, there's La Foret. 2017/2018: There's a huge selection of coffee and tea here. Honestly, I've only tried a tiny fraction of the menu to present date. They have snacks and a bakery also. This place isn't only nice to relax; it's got a nice feel. You might even meet people here. I haven't tried the coffee yet but they serve Umbria. Seems quite on par with other coffee shops. Their Matcha latte is great and hot chocolate is nice. The pineapple pastry is pretty good; however, it's not the best I've had. Pretty good location too!! Should give it a try at least once if you like cafes.

Food and drinks are mid. Nice place but very hostile employees. You feel really judged when you only order a simple drink. They treat customers that order more food better than they do people who's just trying to study and have a coffee. Terrible service honestly, my experience was ruined.
